wanting to start using bio or peanut oil...
i was wondering if some of you might help me out. i want to get into using bio or peanut oil and am not really sure where to start. i need to know what the truck needs, as well as what i need to have to make and process it. i have been searching around, but there is such a gaggle of info i just get bored looking for something that would pertain to me and my truck. i would continue to search, but im also in the military and dont quite have the time to be reading for hours. at least not when the internet is available to me. i will be coming back home this friday back to my truck and tho i know i wont get anything done for this changeover, id like to start thinking about it. if there is any threads that stand out particularly that you all could provide a link, as well as threads from other sites i would greatly appreciate it. i have also tried to read on biodieselnow.com, but the organization as far as trying to find stuff peratining to what i need to do is just sending me in circles. if there is any good reading available that could be provided i could print it out and read on my own time.
thanks a lot,
jeremy

Jeremy I to have a 2000 running the edge. I run WVO alot(whenever I can get it) and the truck loves it. The main thing is filtering. You cant filter it enough. Let it settle for about two weeks and you can see the difference. the bottom will have all the bad junk and water. Even though some say it doesnt work I run mine through a water filter also. If you are not going to run a seperate tank you will need to thin the oil out some so it will flow easily through your system. I just cut it with diesel right know but in the winter I will be cutting it with kerosene. There is defenently alot more to it but this should get you started in the right direction. OhYeah the stock lift pump will have to go. It is about to weak to push diesel much less veggie. My injection pump likes the extra lube. I am trying to get a two tank system in the works right now but funding is going slow. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

so would a FASS be alright? or do i need to have the peanut oil tank on its own pump?
how is the greasecar kit? seems like i heard somewhere it is one of the three best kits out there...

is there better or a simpler kit out there? how about the home facility? i can get old hot water heaters easily. what all do i need for the processing station?
thanks,
jeremy

If you are going to make bio you dont need that kit. It is just for running SVO. If you are going to use SVO you will just need a container big enough to hold the oil you plan on storing a filter and a way to pump it into the tank on the truck. I have never used a FASS so I cant help you there. Just make sure you do not go with a vane type pump. the vanes have a hard time sliding out in the thicker oil so no pumping action. These would be your holley blue black type pumps.

see, now im lost again. why wouldnt i need that kit or something similar? i have to store the peanut oil on my truck, but cant put it in my diesel tank. so i need another tank, pump/filters, and supply lines. were you talking about the fill station with just a container, filters, and a way to fill the tank on your truck? are there better altenatives for the onboard system?

Running Biodiesel and running peanut oil are two different things. Biodiesel is a fuel made from chemically reacting vegetable oil to remove the glycerin. When made properly bio can be poured into your regular tank and run just like #2. Bio is made with methanol and lye. The link that infidel posted has lots of good info on bio. Running peanut oil is totally different. To run any type of used cooking oil the oil must first be heated so that it will be thin enough to pump through the injectors. This is the purpose of the kits from companys like greesecar and others. These kits use a two tank system using hot coolant to heat the oil in the 2nd tank. So to sum up if you are going to use bio then you dont need a gresecar type kit and if you want to use straight filtered oil then you need a kit. Hope this is helpful.

yeah, i wasnt clear in my post. sorry for the confusion. i am aware of the two and how theyre different. my later posts where referring to the cooking oil, but my original post i was intending to ask for info on both. infidel posted the bio, and was a very good read.
back to bio - the cummins lift pump will be okay with it, am i right? and when i get a FASS one of these days thats alright right? i see that the vulcan line kits allow you to upgrade to bio-tolerant seals/o-rings so thats what got me thinking about the FASS and my current lp.
thanks,
jeremy

Bio can run in the stock FASS pump with no issues and conversions. WVO is thicker and will require some heating elements to work properly. In other words, you need to modify your fuel system from front to back with this. We do have a pump that seems to be doing very well with the WVO crowd. Its our EM-1002 motor (The big high amp motor) and our 95 GPH base (Small pump). This combo can push the thicker fuel and live. So far we are offering a 2 year wnty for WVO Use.
Part number is:
RP-1004-HPFP
OR any FASS with the Large motor and small pump would work.
frybrid makes a very good kit but the time to wait for it is a long time.
golden fuel systems makes another good system.
i have a brand new golden fuel system i would be willing to part with if u were interested.

IN theory, could one not add a second tank and have some sort of block heater in it so you could pulg it into your house when your home and then have like one of those oil pan heating pads running off your batterys when your out and about?
You could heat it any way you want. It just needs to be thin enough to pump and go through your system. You don't want it cooling in the lines when you aren't running though. That's why there is a start/shutdown procedure where you start and stop on diesel.
