Trying my first tank of Bio

Just filled up with B20 today.

Found a station that sells it about 3 blocks from my house.

First time I've tried Bio, will see how my truck likes it,
if mileage improves, power goes up or down, etc.

First thing I noticed was it looked about the color of week old fryer oil and didn't smell as "Diesely" as normal #2.

They have 16 Diesel pumps, 5 giving out Dyed Offroad Diesel, 10 giving out regular ole #2, but only one flowing the B20.
It's situated way in the back, and has a pump for Kerosene and a pump for "Solvent"(?) right next to it.

Diesel was selling for $3.05,
Kerosene for $3.50,
Solvent (?) for $3.85 and B20 for $3.03.
Didn't even look at the Dyed price, but based on other stations that sell the red stuff, it was probably around $2.85.

Last 2 tanks of #2 netted me 14.5 and 15 MPG, give me a week and I'll have the results of the B20 test.

All of my testing has shown Bio-diesel to did a slight raise on mileage and power.
I won't test the WVO directly into a diesel. Not even a Chevy.

You will like it. I have been running home made B100 for weeks now, and am tickled with the results. Runs great in my 96, 99, Kubota tractor, and I wish I had more diesels to run it in.
The only problem is checking the mileage. I don't have a way to meter the fuel into the truck, and cannot get an accurate measurement of how much I am using.

Does it really? You need to filter and wash it better then.

Hey Stamey,

If you are looking for more things to run the bio in I have a truck and I know where there is a farm that would take all the free fuel they can get, but they are here in MI. Would you bring it up?

It's Cardwell Distributing (Sinclair Station), around 8140 S. State Street.
B20 pump is way in the back, over the berm, by the huge white storage tanks.

DalSoglio (Sinclair also) supposedly has it as well, 7398 S. 700 W, they also sell B100 by the container.

Day #1 observations.

Right at startup this morning, it seemed that the injection pump was quieter, could be my imagination.

Cruising on the freeway, fuel pressure seemed to be 1-2#'s lower than normal,
EGT's were about 50 degrees cooler (normally runs closer to 900 on the freeway, today it was closer to 850),
Overhead mileage seemed to be lower, normally I can feather the go peddle and keep it at 17mpg at 70mph, today I was fighting to keep it at 15mpg.

To be continued . . .

Ok, so it's taken me over the promised week to burn through this tank.

Today, at half a tank left.

To be continued. . .

Next week I will be in a area that sells biodiesel. B99 and B100. I will make a point to fillup there with B99. This will be my first tank of bio also.

In my area it is. B99 is $2.75 per gallon and B100 is $3.00

So you guys trying out the bio, what are you finding with regards to having change fuel filters after the first few tanks? I've always heard that since bio is such a good solvent that it tends to loosen all the deposits from the lines and tank and get caught in the filter.

I might have to get a tank of Bio-Willie next time I run through Carl's Corner.
