Switching home from oil to gas heat. What to do with leftover oil?

I will have probably ~100 gallons leftover in the home heating oil tank.

Can I burn it in the truck?

Under these circumstances could this get me into trouble? Or do I have to have someone come take it away.

Would there be any trace if it in the tank/fuel filter or anywhere else?

It's not worth it to me risking getting into trouble over it.

But if I could do it risk free why not? If I can avoid throwing $500.00 down the drain who wouldn't.

Or maybe I could donate it.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

DT.

You answered most all your own questions .
You could sell it to someone who uses off road equipment , construction , farming .
If you were near me I would buy it , but then it would depend on condition , it may need to be run through a fuel polisher , if its been sitting for some time .
So a eduction in value , on road $4.50 -.50 tx - $1.00 for cleaning =$3 gal. , as an example .
Also - coming to pick up & suck out .

Thanks John.

So legally I couldn't burn it in my own truck?

Have to be off-road? Why is that? Is it because it'd be obvious when I drove it down the street or is it purely a legality?

If I were to burn it in the truck I'd take it out a few gallons at a time at the oil burner end of the HHO fuel line so it passes through the filter and then dump it in the truck fuel tank.

Funny thing is I paid *MORE* for this HHO than I've ever paid for diesel for my truck.

I paid 4.83 for this HHO. So far I've never paid more than $4.69 for truck diesel.

And as you know there's no tax on HHO.

So it's not like I'm getting a deal on it. Just salvaging most but not all of what it cost me in the first place.

???

Thanks,

DT.

I also am changing to a gas fired condensing boiler as we speak, Avista set the meter yesterday. My left over furnace oil is going in my truck!

Anyone who is going to worry me about the red dye... I also have a fuel additive/conditioner called "Diesel-Mate", produced by Certified Laboratories in Mountain View, CA. Guess what color it is? RED!

Yeah I'm going for the same type of boiler.

The Burnham model Freedom CM.

What type of boiler did you buy and what did you pay?

I figure after the rebate from the gas company ( $1000.000 ) it'll cost me ~2500.00 bucks just for the unit.

dieselnewbie , you did not get it the 1st time , you answered all your own questions , you did not want to get in trouble , then do not burn in your truck .
A little red dye goes a long way .
JJPage , not all red dyes are the same thing , the red dye in fuel is made for reacting to testing , not just looking at .
Your additive & off road fuel red dye are not the same .

DT, if I ma make a suggestion. Find an older couple that uses oil for heat, and either donate it to them, or sell it at greatly reduced price to help them through the winter. We did basically the same for an older coule last year. The only exception was we gave them 250 gallons of B100, and had their furnace readjusted by a friend for nothing. We even changed the fuel filters every other week, or so. That took care of any filter issues they might have had. Keith

Just add it to your truck a little at a time--In NV you're allowed up to 4% red in your fuel--Don't know about where you live though
