straight WVO! runs good no preheat
straight WVO! runs good no preheat
i have found the right place to get wvo from. they strain it before they throw it out. they change it every sunday morning. its thin like diesel even when cold. theres enough for me to run in a week. i put about 15 gallons with about 5 gallons of #2 in my front tank yesterday and it ran fine without even heating it. the place i get it from is called taco bell if you have one near you go check it out. dont go to a chicken place. their oil turns to sludge under 110 degrees! the resturaunt manager says they get charged by the POUND to get rid of it! they were more than happy to give it to me. i am not even filtering it now. but i will start soon. all i have is a barrel pump now. ill get a electric pump and i alredy have a racor triple filter setup water seperator down to about 5 mic. that is good enough for me.
Honestly I would not do it if I were you! Thats a good way to destroy your engine! I have been running WVO for a few years now and never switch over until I hit at least 140 degrees and the WVO has to be dry as a bone! Otherwise you are just asking for trouble IMO.......

mmm... Taco Bell sounds good right now..
Change your oil and send a sample to Blackstone or some other lab. You now have a benchmark for comparative purposes. At first, every oil change you should send in a sample, later you can change it to every other change. Good way to keep your engine in check.
Mixing by pouring oil in the tank does not do a very good job, it just sinks to the bottom with diesel resting on top. Sloshing by driving is not enough to do a complete mix. You would be far better to pre-mix the blend and then pour it into the tank. Try pouring oil in a cubie with 6" of diesel in it, you will see.
Be careful you do not change the viscosity of the diesel too much, bad spray pattern, bad for the engine. Beware that just becuse it runs good now, short term, that has no bearing on long term.
All that said and done, welcome to the demented world of WVO.

Hey guy's I wish anyone luck with all experiments on using alternative fuels I think the Cummins is a great engine to do this with but I would hate to see someone damage there engine because something worked good for a while. As Baha knows most of the guy's that run straight grease have done there research and have know intentions of ruining there engines. Good luck!!
When I was a kid my dad had lots of heavy equipment and I can remember him changing the oil and dumping the used motor oil into the fuel tank and it ran great I believe that most of the equipment had 471 Detroit’s, 2 stroke
Unless things have changed I wouldn't call used fryer oil from Taco Bell, McDonald's, KFC, etc Waste Vegetable Oil.
It's lard, by far regarded as the worst material for making biodiesel.
Adding it unprocessed to your tank is asking for big trouble, it's just going to take awhile till it shows up.

i have been away for a few days. but i am back now. i have a triple filter setup and a small pump out of an old fuel tank i had laying around. i got about 5 more gals from taco bell and ran it through the pump filter and into the tank. i dont really see how heating the oil before you run it has much ill effects on it. since it pours smooth at room temperature i dont think it would hurt alot. and taco bell does not fry anything more than corn tortillas. no meat. so theres no fatty stuff in there. i am about to go to the china king and see what their oil looks like. if its okay i may start running that too. i was thinking about running the fuel line around the exhaust pipe a couple of times before it goes to the engine. that would be sure to heat it up.
the question about the used motor oil. i have burned that many times after an oil change, i pour it in my tank and keep trucking! other than a slight haze at idle it is fine. i think its a great way to get rid of it and save a good 8 or 10 bucks to boot. once every 3,000 miles surely wont hurt anything. i have went to all the trouble of making bio diesel in the past and taco bell was by far he best oil i have found to make it out of. but honestly it was a lot of trouble to make it and the cost of methanol, lye, and the time put into it to wash it and settle it is not worth the gain. i may change my mind if my injectors get all coked up and burns a hole in the cylinder or something bad happens to my engine. but for now i am not worried. for one i have 2 good cummins engines sitting in the shop ready to go. if i burn up an engine, my loss, not yours. you told me so. it wont happen again. but if everything goes great. then i save a lot of money and laugh every time i pass a gas station with "Diesel-$2.99" on it. i laughed when i passed one today!! and it felt great!
