Last summer in WV. I ran acrossed a sign on I-68 that said " All Diesel Passenger Vehicles Must Stop at Checkpoint" They were dipping everything from my CTD to VW Jettas !! The fine reportedly started at 10 grand !!!!!!!!!!!!
I also hear that when they get bored they will head to the local watering holes frequented by alot of 'Good Ol' Boys who like their diesels and start dipping tanks. That is why I got the ol' locking cap. I have nothing to hide but don't want things dipped down my tank if i can help it..

My asking of this question comes from, i bought a 94 12 v that was a work truck and all they did was run red fuel, i am going ot use it for road use now, but has a full tank of red fuel in it. i dont want to drain it if i can just run it out. I thought id ask what kind of penalties people are getting if cought. Thanks for the info guys
If you just run it out the red is going to stay for a long time because the tank isn't really empty even if you run out of fuel. I think there usually is also a good portion of sludge in the tank of any old vehicle that should be removed to avoid technical problems.
In all those threads there were warnings about IRS problems etc. I would consider the price of a full tank of on road fuel a cheap insurance premium against any trouble with the law on that issue and the maintenance an investment in the reliability of the truck.

IIRC as long as you use it strictly offroad for farming you can run red.
Of course whose going to bust you if you never leave the farm?

Isnt this subject a bit of a ????
Bottom line is that if the vehicle is registered for or operated on any public roadway( for otehr than agricultural purposes), it cant have the red dye tracers in teh fuel system. period, no other definition or what ever needed...
If I were in your position, I would call the local State Police Barracks and talk to a SUPERVISOR and explain the situation. GET HIS NAME, see what he recommends.....Drain teh tank, refill it, Change your Fuel Filter and go on down the road. If your worried about getting dipped, I would suggest writting to the local state police instead of calling, ask for a written responce on what to do... keep a copy in teh glove box...

Yep, chances of getting stuck are rather low, but don't mistake, it does happen.

Well you can say what you want about this but after KATRINA in NC they were actually selling red fuel because of the shortage and also up to a certain amount could continue to do so.
i still have about 150 gallons left in my pete and plan on running it until it runs out.
further more to this said if you got your tank checked just tell them its the fuel additive that made it red!!!!!

Red fuel was the only fuel they had available after Katrina and the government only grudgingly allowed it to be used as on road fuel when they realized the economy would grind to a screeching halt if they didn't. That said it was almost 3 years ago and you still have that fuel in your Pete?? That excuse won't fly and the fuel additive excuse
