If your gonna be stupid and run red fuel, Don't do it in a truck with a service body or a aux. tank with a big electric pump on the top.
Or with any truck that looks like it just came off the jobsite.
This goes for flatbeds too.
My brother is a DOT officer and I asked him about this subject and he says work trucks are mainly the ones they dip and trucks with farm tags.
Don't do it and you won't have to worry about it!

The fine in every state is different, in California it is 10.00 per gallon of red dye fuel in your tank.
I deal with several farmers in California's Central and Salinas Valleys, when I asked not one had heard of anyone getting busted in Calif for red fuel. Different states have different priorities and choose not to expend money on a red fuel hunt.
California surprisingly seems to be one of these.
Montana tried big enforcement for a short period then figured out that it cost more than it reaped. The state is now down to just three inspectors that hang out at the interstate truck scales.
I've heard other Californians complain that even if they can legally run offroad fuel that it's hard to come by except for in bulk on site deliveries.
Not like in Montana where the red hose is right next to the green one at most every station.
