I'd like to see more states do the same. I'd buy some, if it were available in my area.

Botique Fuels

The new Minnesota law requires diesel sold in the state to contain at least two percent biodiesel.
This is another example of what is called a "botique fuel" in the oil industry. There are currently dozens of botique fuels (primarily gasolines with various oxygenates, varying Reid vapor pressures, etc.) required for certain states and/or municipal areas. These botique fuels add to the cost of the product (it's obviously more costly to produce 5 or 6 diesel blends in a refinery than one standard #2 diesel fuel) and limit availability in the event of emergency. For example - based on the statement above, no non-B2 diesel fuel could be brought in from Wisconsin, the Dakotas, etc. should something happen to Minnesota's supply system.

Just something to consider......this may invoke the law of unintended consequences (aka "Be careful what you wish for - you may just get it!!)

I think it needs to become a gov't mandate.... not just Minnesota. If biodiesel was easily accessable to me I'd definately run it.

I was gonna say basically the same thing as Rusty.
Mandated is not a good thing.

There's already more then 300...yes 300 different local and state mandated fuel blends. If some one is going to mandate it, it should be at the federal level and one blend for all states.

It may be mandated sooner than you think on the federal level. When ULSD becomes required next fall lubricity must be brought back up, industry consensus so far is to do this with 1% bio.

It seems that if its mandated from government it cost too much, and they end up with our money and our power. If its done by corporations then they get our money and power, and looking to have it imposed at the federal level then we have a police state. It seems to me that the constitution establishes a free- market and a free country; no subsities and no hinderances from either. Then we'll have a much higher chance having what we need and cheaper. If its forced from either side then it will cost too much and will not work efficiently.

I understand where you are coming from and perhaps used the word mandated wrong.
The feds mandate that all diesel fuel meet minimum lubricity requirements, the refiners can do this by any means they like. They do want to standardize it though to avoid mixing problems and incombatability in the the pipelines and tanks. Bio is being considered for this by the oil companies on their own, the feds don't care what is used as long as the fuel meets standards.

This is where the ture free market takles off ,standards would be set by comin [ nowdays its uncomin] sence if you sell a product that serves a purpose and you cut corners or do something that causes harm [ doctors oath 1st do no harm ] then your lible for any damage. but nowdays we have too many laws and they need interpation [ so they tell us ] , with a true free market there is few laws , less government and things are simple and comin sence apllies again , so everything equille most people know when there getting hosed. I'm just doing my part and stiring the pot and trying to make people think before we through more money and laws at every turn making life cost 80% more than the true cost of doing biz.
