Largest Spread Between Gas and Diesel Prices

This just makes me mad!

Filled up the gf's car this weekend for $2.79 and filled up the truck at the same time for $4.07!! What gives?

That is a difference of $1.28!!! This was at a truck stop on I45 south of Dallas....

Her car $2.79 / 22mpg = 12.7 cents per mile
My car $4.07 / 50mpg = 8.1 cents per mile
The truck $4.07 / 18mpg = 22.6 cents per mile

Still cheaper to drive the Jetta but man... if diesel was the same as gas:
$2.79 / 50mpg = 5.5 cents per mile... One can only dream I guess...

Anybody have me beat on the greatest difference between gas and diesel prices?

The yep, still over a $.50+ diff in gas/diesel prices here. The only thing I can think of is that the fuel co's have locked into higher contract prices. Now that the prices have dropped, they're stuck w/the higher fuel they've paid for and have in their tanks. To prevent a loss on their puch, they have to sell at cost+profit till they purch there next shipment. JMO.

Heating oil demand is probably the culprit like always.

I don't get why people keep using heating oil for heat, by far it is the most expensive!!!!!

It's about a $.70-1.00 delta in my area. Only reason I can think of is the high demand for diesel for the after Ike cleanup operation in this area.

One reason gas is going down more then diesel is the gas supply is going up and diesel is not. They need to get rid of gas as inventor is going up and not down so they drop the price an hope that people will drive more. Once they lower the supply they can then raise the price of gas back up to over $3.00.

Not seeing that here in CA. Diesel is Now the same as Mid Grade Gas. About 20 cents less than Supreme unleaded.
