It just doesn't add up?!?

I commute 50 miles to work 1 way, I have a 93 GEO metro, 3 cyl, 1.0lt, 5spd that gets 45 mpg. It's 2008 and there aren't many new cars out there that can touch that? What's wrong with this picture? Are the fuel companies paying off the car companies or what?

Unfortunately, no.....

Your Geo Metro now qualifies as a gross polluter and the little Chery Chinese car crash tests better. They couldn't sell your Geo today if they tried.

Hate to say it, but we are a victim of our own fears.

That Chinese made Chery may be safer but can it get the same or better fuel mileage then the old 1993 Geo Metro can? One other thing about the new cars, to keep the tree hugger's and Al Gore happy the air it puts out the exhaust has to be cleaner then the air that goes in to the air filter.

I know what your saying, but in most cases in a wreck a car of this size isn't going to make it no matter how many crash resistant panels are on it!

i have only seen one accident where someone in a geo didn't get seriously injured.... it was in minnesota and a guy hit a moose.... thats right i said a moose.... it was even in the same stretch of road that my dad hit one with his 91CTD. the only reason the guy survived the accident was because the car is so small that it actually went under the moose.... sadly the moose died... it was a pretty good sized bull.... but luckly the guy only had a few scratches and bruises..... still wouldn't want to drive one though....

It's amazing how well the space frame design of that smart car faired in the crash. However, where are the driver's legs supposed to go? I guess that was the problem before the car crashed, though, too. But even more so when there is nothing left up front. I would not doubt a driver would survive but probably in a wheelchair. Physics simply isn't on your side with that car. In order to absorb the energy of an impact there has to be material deformation, the problem is there isn't that much material up there to deform before it reaches a person.
