Im of the opinion the new Diesel fuel sucks!

About a month ago I took a trip up to Redding California after just changing oiul and filter,I was pleasantly suprised to see my mileage at 23 MPG hand calculated..now heres the bad part,I took the same trip last week and the best I could manage was 17 MPG.Not to mention much harder to produce black smoke in large amounts... mad.gif Both trips were in similiar weather,no wind to speak of and driving at 67 MPH. If this is the future in diesel fuel,I think we got the short end of the stick! I recently oredered up some of the newly formulated Stanadyne to add at fill ups,but they are back ordered for weeks to come.Any one else see a drastic change in mileag

I think the jury's still out, as the anecdotal evidence so far is inconclusive.

I agree, many times people percieve a change as the end of the world, and after a little while they forget, because they have realized it isn't so bad.

And if you have less smoke, thats a good thing. Less bad publicity for our hobby. I love a cloud as much as the next diesel junkie, but 95% of the public sees the smoke and thinks "stupid, dirty, junky diesel"

Sorry,I dont confuse facts with "perception" as you put it.When the change comes out of my pocket,I "perceive" it as bad.Period.

One or two tanks does not conclusively prove a milage drop. Milage will usually vary from tank to tank, even with simmilar driving conditions.

I have noticed a slight drop in milage as well. But also gotten my best tank average yet. Both from the same station.

And my post was in direct response to XLR8R, thats why I quoted him, I was not attacking you.

Differentiating between observation & impression is wise, if not widespread - welcome to the club!

Mileage changes due to the ULSD rollout have so far (as supported by anecdotal evidence) been all over the map; while the official report of the difference in energy content between LSD & ULSD states 1%...
At the moment, without a body of consistent, significant loss-of-mileage test results, I can only logically support one mileage claim: "the mileage has gone down by 1%". Anyone capable of measuring the difference between 18mpg & 17.82mpg? .... that's what I thought!

Thanks to all who have, and will, present their own observation/measurements of the mileage changes - don't forget to be specific.

To date my best hand calculated milage has been 19.8, 350, highway, 150 back roads looking for fields to dove hunt. On ULSD.

Previous best was 18.6 on LSD, about 80/20 highway/city.

I fill up at 400-500 miles.

There has been other anecdotal evidence to support your less smoke/haze observation; it's interesting how sulphur content might cause that, or perhaps the marginally reduced BTU/gallon.
