Green? ULSD? Less Smoke? I3 Mitisbishi diesel

Was putting fuel into our I3 Mitisbishi diesel, and i noticed it was greenish?
Now i believe it is ULSD because it smokes very little at WOT.

Is it ok that its green?
and is it ULSD?

Mike

ULSD is OK in any diesel (gonna have to be as soon that will be all there is to buy) A lot of folks use diesel powerserve or 2 stroke ashless oil for added lubricity. Your OK with it.

Iker, sorry, I see now you asked OK that its green, maybe you're right and its the way they mark the new ULSD. Here in NC it has been green as long as I remember, and the off road is red. I wonder if each state does it way they want to or if it is federal rules.

I mentioned here a few weeks ago that I pumped 100 gallons into our transfer tank for the shop that was CLEAR. Not a little yellowish tint, completely translucent.

I wonder if the ULSD is clear and whatever additives they are putting in for lubricity or winter blends are making it other colors?

I think the color variances, are just a difference in batchs, distributor, and tanker it was hauled in with.

The dyes are added for regulatory purposes, but fuels are often mixed by accident or design, due to logistical reasons. I think we're seeing more color variety recently because we're paying more attention to the diesel (thanks ULSD) and because the refinerers/distributors are smoothing out the wrinkles from the LSD phase-out & ULSD phase-in.

I filled both the Dodge and Jetta today at a Hess station with ULSD and it looked to have a green tint. Last time I filled up at that Hess station, it was still LSD and that fuel looked almost crystal clear.

The ULSD didn't seem to have as strong an odor as LSD either.

XLR8R hit the nail on the head, you guys are noticing the color changes more because the new ULSD. The color variances have always been there. Again the reasons for color differences are in my earlier post.

ULSD has fewer aromatics (they get removed during the sulphur-reduction process) than LSD, so it doesn't smell as strong.

I think you are right. The only dye required by law presently is red for offroad. Individual distributors must be dying ULSD on their own to keep things straight during the transition.

Yep. I'm not far from Mike and my last tank was green too - almost anti-freeze green!

yeah, thats what i was worrying, i didnt know if it was syphined(sp) from my dads tank to fill the tank, or bought, so i double checked, cuz that about scared me that there was an A/F color in the diesel...
