I just filled up my truck, $67.00. I heard it is only going to get worse and be over 3 dollars a gallon by summer, those rotten, greedy.......... , thanks, I needed that.

So the question is:
How many out there are using Bio
Do you like it
Did you lose any power (anyone dyno the difference)
Can you alternate between bio and diesel if you are away from your supply
What do you do to keep it from geling in the winter
What was the biggest pain about the change over

Saving 2 dollars plus a gallon could really help the pocket book.

what i have found is it is about $6500.00 or more to get set up to run it to buy the right eqp. then it is bad on all seal in pump and you have to get oil that soon they will make you pay to get it from them so i dont see how it would be cheaper to run it it is suppos to run the same power wise there is a guy in redding ca. running it it cost about .85 to make each gallon but then you spend time making it and drive wasting fuel to go get oil TIME IS MONEY TO ME just my 1 cent

What all did you change over for that much money?
I have often thought of Running Bio diesel in my truck because I make it on my own in the summer time. Also, we run it in my Dads chevy 6.5.
I have heard that it cleans all the seals out in the pumps,but it has not done it in my Dads 98 chevy, so what is the deal with the differences between the seals?
I would love to run it in the summer time, but I do not know much about it in my truck. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

he's talking about 6500 for all the equip. to PRODUCE your own bio diesel.

Well, if you want to buy all the equipment from a company that make it. Tanks, heaters etc... then it probably would cost you $6500 or more. It's far cheaper to use a water heater for the reactor and another tank to settle out the glycerin and water. Depends on how handy you are. Used WH are easy to find and even a new one wouldn't be that expensive. Another tank for settling wouldn't be that hard to come by either.

No, but I have completely researched the idea. As soon as I get the time I'm planning to make my own. I'll probably start with SVO and use Sodium Hydroxide with Methanol.

asked around the guys in northern cali said that there is a company going around food service collecting oil so bob and joe cant go and get it then they are selling it to people so like others stuip things that cali does it will soon spread leading to another price jump in running old oil i knew this would come just not this quick so now there is a veg oil controler just like oil

It's the American way. It will probably lead to lower costs to obtain veg oil. Since the organized broker can find more efficient ways to collect it and free competition will keep the price down. It's only when government regulations and taxation gets into the act that the little guy gets it in the shorts.

BTW if you adjust for inflation, fuel prices are actually lower than they were during the 70's Arab oil embargo.

Not counting labor I produce my biofuel at .60 a gallon-the only problem we have encountered is the cold affect on the fuel and the feedstock used to make better winter fuel-that sure beats $3.00-a good set up will cost you about 300-500 if you have any building skills at all and can find some used parts!
