No kidding.
Considering that modern ATF is 60% additives that are designed not to burn I'll bet the inside of the engine looks like a wood stove that hasn't had it's ashes cleaned out all winter.

Yeah the one that runs to the lid of the top bucket is a vent which is hooked to the lid of the bottom bucket. I would need to take some pics now that it's all plumbed up and painted.

The other 2 fittings on the side of the top bucket are for clear tube to make a level guage so I don't overflow it.

The fittings are just Nylon fittings I got at the local plumbing store. They have a ton of different stuff and it's cheap compared to brass. I just used 1/2" male pipe to 3/8" barb. I tapped the bucket with a 1/2" pipe tap to get the Nylon fittings started and then screwed them in. Sealed around them with RTV after.

I made it tall enough to fit 2 liter soda bottles under it since that is what I use. I just keep several filled and ready to go in the toolbox of my truck. When I use them up, I refill and put them back in the truck.

Before I fill at the pump, I dump 2 bottles in and then fill er up.

Big deal made out of nothing. Drain the oil, dump it in one gallon to a tank full. No problem Cummins allowed 5% drain oil.

Thank You.! What he said.. ^^^^^

Used motor oil - no prob.
ATF - No way.
WVO - Bad idea.
Biodiesel - #1 choice (in warm weather) as long as it has been processed correctly, which includes being washed & dried thoroughly. (also have bio rated hoses)
ULSD - Dont have much choice - add some bio and your good to go.

Good luck keeping the oil you dump in there 100% clean. I have filtered out bugs, RTV bits, dirt, small particles of metal, etc.

And I take care to clean my drain pain before hand, and try not to get anything other than oil.

There is a screen on the pump, if the junk gets sucked into the fuel line, it will eventually plug that screen I'd imagine.

I burn engine oil, gear oil and ATF. I guess when the VP44 dies I'll tear it apart and see what it looks like.

Actually its not a matter of luck. The oil is added to the aux tank through a strainer, and gets constantly circulated through a 140 micron strainer, then a water separator, then a 1 micron Frantz fuel filter (via the oem lift pump) until I transfer it to the main tank in a condition probably cleaner than what you can buy at the pump.

(What this diagram does not show is the oem fuel return from the VP & back of the engine to the main tank. The air bleeder valve is tee'd off the VP44 intake fitting for purging air from the system by manually running the fass via a switch mounted on the side of the fusebox and opening the valve. )

The oil was clean in your engine, the garbage was added later. Mine is clean coming out, I keep it clean going in... no filters necessary, the engine has a 5 micron filter and it does not add to a shorter lifetime.

I've never heard a firsthand account of anyone getting "dipped". Never. It's pretty lawless where I live these days and the cops just don't care about speeders or loud exhaust anymore. With the tens of millions of diesel trucks on the road, it's close to statistically impossible.
