Just read in the Houston Chronicle that the big BP refinery in Texas City will remain closed until improvements are made. No timeline for the restart. It's only the 3rd largest refinery in the US with a capacity of 460,000 barrels a day production.
With a shortage of diesel, heating oil and jet fuel in the US due to refinery shutdowns along the gulf coast it's going to be a long winter. I wouldn't be suprised if diesel hits $4 a gallon.

fuel tanker came today, he was talking about the next hurricane thats tracking towards where katrina went/ if it does it will be over 4 bucks. OUCH
As for truckers surcharge, not so much. Most companies wont pay it. if it is it is only around 20 cents or so. which helps but not enough. All the Ads you see with surcharges are "can bes" like the ones that say get paid 60 cents a mile(eah after youve drove for us for many many years haha) Its hurting the companies. I work for a smaller (50 trucks) company. they finally raised their rates, and are still cheeper than most from what ive seen/ Truckers will revolt soon enough
Fuel price
I know here in Thomasville diesel went from 2.79 when i left out of town last week to 3.55 when i came back later that night.... but here's the kicker.... i can drive 25 miles to Moultrie and buy diesel for 2.85 a gallon... ***... it kills me that regular gas is 2.95 diesel is 3.55...... d@mn oil companies...
Canada
There's a website that monitors prices all across Ontario. So I did some conversions, and we're paying $3.11 to $3.53/gal USD. This has been fairly steady for a few weeks now, so I'm guessing we'll have a jump soon enough. There's a little more demand up here for home heating!! Time to start making my own.....
Solving the problem is easy, convert to SVO. I fill my tank about every 5 months, drive as I want, with no loss of power. I hate to say it, but I really smile as I drive by gassers that I know are getting barely double digits in MPG.

It's not as simple as most would like us to think. There is just NO freaking way that supply and demand has been distrupted THIS fast and by leaps and bounds. We were back down to about $2.65 a gal. here the last two weeks, with cheap gas at $2.85. Now, the Gas is at $2.77 and at last check Diesel is right at $2.99???????????????????????? Come -on, there is just no logical answer for this, I am so thankful that I have my little civic now. I still have the same half tank in my truck from three weeks ago. That beats the $72.00 a week I was feeding her.
I dare someone to make sense of it, cause from here it looks like we are just a bunch of idiots who will pay whatever they throw at us??????!!!!!!

just what is svo , and how much of this are we going to take, i burn 1 1/2 tanks a week and im going to pass this on to customers as well as other people are going to do things must stableize. THE FUTURES MARKET IS THE PROBLEM A FEW ARE MAKING BILLIONS
SVO = Straight Vegtable Oil. WVO = Waste Vegtable Oil. In other words, used fryer oil from restaurants. I am in total agreement with all the posts that diesel is a complete ripoff. I do not understand the huge jump in prices over one day, or less. I can't wait to see the quarterly profit reports from Big Oil, and, hopefully, watch the outrage from "we the people". When this occurs, contact your Representative, Senator, and Congressman and let them have it!
Saturday I went to Sam's club and picked up a 4.7gal container of SVO and paid ~$14.47 for it(before tax)..
If my math is right, that's ~$3.08/gal...
Shell station closest to me $3.499 gal for #2...
Hmmm...Sure looks like it's a no-brainer. Especially if #2 goes up even more.
Maybe Sam's will start carrying larger containers than 4.7 gallons...
FYI, a co-worker(a CTD owner) was in England ~2 years ago and he saw a special TV report on the UK authorities cracking down on people buying bulk tins of SVO to run in their diesels...
They fixed that! Now to buy any more than a very limited qty of SVO you have to sign your life away so the authorities can find and punish you if you are using it in a vehicle!
It'll be happening here shortly.. You watch!

Not to hijack or sidetrack but do you just dump SVO the tank, or ? Being in Texas I'm guessing I don't need to preheat the oil right like I've heard you need to do with WVO? Quick skinny on this would be appreciated.
No you absolutely do NOT just dump it into the tank, you must filter it to at least 5 microns. You must have a source of heat, usually the radiator water to preheat the oil to 140+ before you hit the switch. You start and warm the engine on diesel, when warm, switch it over to WVO, run around all day, and the last mile before you go home for the night, switch it back to diesel to flush out the WVO, and get it ready for the AM start. Google SVO, or look up frybrid.com to see a good system. Be careful, there is lot of junk out there, research carefully. The process is a little more involved than that, but in two sentences or less, it's a start.
