i recently got my setup working & have filtered over 100 gal with it using a 5$ flotec drillmotor pump & a perma-flow 2 micron filter/water seperator that i got at summit racing w/2 replacment filters for 74$ each filter should be good for about 3-400 gallons of wmo. pump is rated to work on wmo & 225 gph on water mine filters 1 gal wmo in 40 seconds.

How does the oil look comming out of it?

Are you using a 3/8 drill, and does it run the pump without getting to hot?

thanks

How about some specific details about the rope method. Like how to put it all together and how exactly does this work without making a huge mess.

It will end up being a bug magnet.
You just hang a cotton rope out of the old oil (done let it touch the side of the oil oil container) and hang down to the fresh oil container. Let gravity do the rest.

Just wondered how popular this method is and how long do the filters and pumps last?

thanks

edit = Forgot to ask, filter before or after pump (I would assume after).

filter is after pump & seems to last for 3-400 gal so at 6$ each pretty cheap and the oil is still black depending on which barrel i use the goodstuff i get from the fork lift guy or the bbbbbblack goo from my buddy's semi which seems to have a bit more power when pulling my 31'TT.

I cut the bottom out of a plastic coffee can and cut a hole in the lid for the same can. Put two coffee filters in between the can and lid and flipped the can over. Used two pieces of wood to hold the coffee can over a 5 gal bucket. Mixed 2.5 gal WMO with 2.5 gal of diesel to thin the mix then dumped the mixture into the coffee can slowly. Took way too long and the coffee filters clogged twice. Had to change them to finish the process. Doesnt seem too efficient. I will get an inline fuel filter for my drill powered pump and just run it that way. Less mess and easier.

I did prime the pump, and held it as close to the oil as I could. It only had to lift it a few inches. Wondering weather I need to try another drill pump or come up with a better style pump??

I like the TP filter idea. put a bucket of waste oil up high and have it draining thru a roll of TP to get to a drip bucket below. It will take awhile to filter but that should grab all the nasty soot and junk from the oil.

I just stumbled across this thread... what the heck are you guys trying to DO?

I'm sure glad we have indoor plumbing in this neck of the woods!
