We use oil filters down to 2 micron. They are made of a metal support screen with a cloth type filter media.
Black Diesel
A few questions.
I find the use of "Black Diesel" interesting but a little scary.
What concern is there about the soot and metal contaminants in the used oil possibly damaging the fuel system?
What is your experience with it in the 12 valves, and especially in the HPCR system?
Thanks

You can order 5 micron and smaller filter bags from McMaster-Carr, FSI Industries, Filterbag.com, about 3 bucks. A cheap stand is make a table, cut a hole to hang the bag, put a bucket under it, pour the oil in, wait. Your bag will be hazardous waste when you are finished with it, dispose it properly.

guys, use an old Cummins oil filter- start using LF3894, which is a stratapore filter (good to 5 microns), and it does NOT have an internal bypass...(it's built into the engine on a Cummins) just need a mount for it- a remote filter kit?
I also like the TP idea.. you want the industrual TP for it- the real cheep stuff you get at Sam's, Costco or janitorial supply places.. the more sheets the better... this is what the frantz was based on..

I remember reading something about using a cotton rope and having your dirty oil on a shelf with the rope dipped in it and then having the other end of the rope in a clean bucket on the floor and letting the oil absorb into the rope and drip down. By the time it hits the bottom bucket it's almost golden brown.

Takes about 30 minutes to do 5 gallons.
Hasn't anybody here ever fried a turkey? I have a pump I bought from Academy for $20 with filters for filtering peanut oil after use. It runs on D cell batteries and is very simple to use. I haven't used it yet for waste oil, but I will when I get home. I think I'll buy a new one actually. I don't want to run waste oil through my peanut oil filter.
