I would imagine not enough Cetane.

Pretty dirty to run too. If yo have a super filtration and added at least some #2 o it, I gues it would work.

Too thick actually. I wouldn't run more than 30-35% waste motor oil in my tank.
There are alot of threads covering the use of waste motor oil,WMO, also known as Black Diesel. The biggest issues are filtering the heck out of it and keeping a reasonable mix so that you don't get your fuel too thick for the fuel delvery system to pump.

Talk to OILGUY. He has lots of experience with WMO. I just ran a 20% mix. As soon as I get some more WMO I will try 30 then 40 then 50... maybe. Idle was a little lower during warmup using 20% mix. No other changes, maybe a little more smoke.

I heard of another guy (some other forum) who ran his diesel on used ATF. I LOVE THESE ENGINES.

Check the % sulfated ash on the oil you'll be using. That's what will be left behind in the combustion chamber from the additive package in the used oil.

Google up a spec sheet for the used oil you'll be using. For instance, I just did a search for Chevron Delo 400 15W-40. It has a sulfated ash of 1.41%. This means that for every 100 lbs of oil you consume as fuel, 1.41 lbs are non-combustible and will be converted to residual solids during the combustion process. Some of these will go out the exhaust, but some will remain in the engine and turbocharger as deposits.

The exhaust will be much more toxic ,
Use waste vegi oil and it will be cleaner exhaust , and much better for the eng.

One person I have seen on another forum recommends to not use more than 1% WMO in the older diesels. Those with HPCR are to run none. I am not sure of his source but he seems to know whereof he speaks. I can see it also with any truck running around with a CAT.

As to new veggie oil, the problem there is price from what I have seen, it runs in the $5 to $6 a gallon range. At least in the places I have access to.

Peanut Oil

My diesel mechanic told me about using new peanut oil at a 2 to 1 ratio, #2 over oil. I've been running it for a while and it seems to work fine. No loss of power that I can tell. Costco sells it in 5 gallon conainers for $9.97. Seems like a good deal to me when the diesel pump prices are at $3.19. On a 30 gallon fill up I put in 10 gallons of peanut oil and 20 gallons of #2 diesel fuel. Saves me about $12.00 a tank.
