How to figure out if additives are cost effective

My math skills are bad. My algebra skills are worse. To those of you here who are good at the above, how can one go about figuring out if the $$ we spend on fuel additives are actually saving us $$ at the pump? I know that the fact that we are extending the life of our pumps and injectors is priceless, but I was wondering about the fuel savings. I would assume the formulas would have to include the miles driven, cost of fuel, cost of additive, and the difference in MPG between treated fuel and untreated fuel.

divide the total cost of a tank of fuel (fuel, additives, etc) by the number of miles driven on that tank.
Do the same without the additives and see how they compare.

I run Power Service white bottle year round. I have never checked the mileage with/without but my undersatnding is that it improves cetane, gelling and lubes my VE pump.

I can sure tell a difference in cold starting/running in the winter time.

There are the other benefits that aren't readily apparent, just as improved lubrication, performance, etc.

I know I shouldn't knock it before I try it, but I'm not sold on PS. It seems to be a bit pricey (unit cost), and I really do like stanadyne and MMO. I use MMO in the CTD, the boat (2 cyc) and in the gas tank and crankcase in my Neon. I have 3 gallons of Lucas fuel treatment that I got from Advance Auto on clearance @ 75% off ($19.50 for 3 gal.) that I gotta use up. 1200 gals worth . What I should really do is use a cheap 2 cycle oil from the boat supply store in both the boat gas and CTD tank.

I use PS because it's available at Wally World in the big bottles. It's a lot pricier at the local truck stops so I stopped buying it there. I've not used any of the others but I do dump in my WMO straight from the drain. That should lube the pump also so I'm thinking I don't need the PS in summer if I use the WMO.

I was using a Power Service / MMO mix in my truck but 2 weeks ago I switched to Ethos FR and I'm now averaging about 26 mpg in my truck (from 17) and my wife went from about 18 to 22 mpg in her Nissan Quest.
So are you giving out free samples?
