Will it work, I need to jump on this deal!

Question Will it work, I need to jump on this deal!

I just found a 2007 2500 Ram that has no engine, trans, tranfercase or radiator.
I have a 1998 12 Valve, auto 4wd.
It had a 6.7 diesel in it stock.
Will mine fit the 2007?
How much time and money do you estimate it costing me?

I've never done that swap but I've done some crazy stuff. That should be an easy enough swap to do. A 12v in an 07, a lot of folks would like that combo!
It really boils down to your skill level and facilities to work in. I say if the price is right go for it!

Do the 07's have a throttle cable or do they have wires?

Anyone know where I can find engine mount specs for both trucks or an easy way to figure this out. Also have a concern about shift linkage for auto trans.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
With a donor truck you should be in good shape engine wise. There will be much work involved in electronics. Wiring will be a big issue as have to marry 98 into the later. The tranny from donor should be O"K and you have the linkage. Just have to make it work. You know the title should be revamped to a 1998 salvage if you do this. Value would be low if tried to sell. Not many people will have the intestinal fortitude and understanding to make good on the electronics. So much is ground controlled by central timer module now.

As far as electronics, I don't think my 12 valve or trans has any. I think think the only electronics for my trans is on my throttle linkage. (TPS)
Another thing I was wondering is my transfer case has a lever on the hump to control it. Doesb't the new ones has a switch on the dash.
Seems like a huge job, but it would be the perfect truck, even if it's a salvage title.

I say do it, it would be the ultimate truck!!! As for gauges, make your own dash with aftermarket gauges, that would be cool you could probably fit like 10 pillar sized gauges in there(forgot the size) and the tach and speedo.

Rich, How did the engine mounts work for you? Did you have to fabricate them?
I'm mainly concerned with down time. Not to worried about guages and a/c. I can fix them as I go.

they had to fabricate the one for the drivers side for sure cant remember about the passenger side, plus the radiator hoses are different. also had to do some fabricating for the powers steering. we didn t have a donor truck tho all we had was the engine.

I can grad as much as I want of my 98, but I don't know how much will swap over. I think the axles are the same, but I don't know about the linkage. Going tomorrow to take measurements and see what I'm getting into.

now why in the world would someone want to convert a good title into a salvage title?

I've seen tons of vehicles with engine/tranny swaps all with original titles..

the 07 is a salvage, but I think I can have it inspected to have it cleared.
I can't find a reason not to. especially because it's $8k for the 07 and my 98 is paid off.
Am I missing something with the title deal?

Are you talking about the white '07 for sale in west sacramento by those russian dudes? If so I looked at it a few weeks ago... 0 miles,, no interior, no door panels, dash stuff in the center is ripped up, column is ripped up. Have you seen it yet? other than that the truck is straight save for the drivetrain removal hack job, looks like they ripped it out in a hurry... you'd have to basically just slam your drivetrain in there, and rip the cab down to nothing, and custom build the dash/mech gauges etc. you don't need to 'jump' on it though... the kid was going to combine his '05 with that '07 and put the 5.9 common rail in it,,, would sell both for 17K.... buuuuut even he got discouraged and lost interest. The truck looks cool though.... It is legit, 0 miles or near that for sure.
