I've heard the gas version of this car is so underpowered it only gets in the mid 30's for fuel economy. That and its a figgin' deathtrap if you're in an accident with anything more than a 10 speed...

My Jetta gets better mileage than the so called Smart car in the US... That and it has 4 doors, a crash test rating that wasn't made up... Oh and I'm 6'0" tall and dont have my seat all the way back! lol...

Dont see what is so 'smart' about putting a car the size of a gocart on the highway with semis and such

I agree why buy half of an over priced car when you can have a VW that does the same thing.

I am also 6'0 and have to move the seat forward in the TDI. I drive with it all the way back in most things.

The US does not get the diesel version, but almost all of the rest of the world does. The diesel version does MUCH better than its gas counterpart.

I have heard the gas ones only get 30 mpg also. No diesels here.
I still want one with a hayabusa in it. STREET LEGAL GO CART!
