I'm considering doing a cummins 12 valve swap into a excursion and was wondering what the rules are as far as doing that are,I mean do I have to go from diesel to a diesel swap or can I buy a gas excursion and change it over to diesel because of their being a diesel option that year.I live in the norteast part of Illinois and I have smog checks around for gas cars I don't know if I can check with smog police or the Dmv or if their is a website I could look at I tried the state website and no good info that I found.If someone that has done this could just give me a direction that would be appreciated.

It's a complicated issue. If you want to follow the letter of the law there's really next to no modifications you can legally do . . .
