Excursion 5.9 conversion

Hello,
I just purchased a 2000 excursion with a blown v10 im wanting to convert it to a 5.9. Ive never messed with diesels this i my first. Just wondering if u guys could give me some pointers on the best parts and stuff to use. It will be my daily driver for the most part so i want some good fuel mileage but i want some power an torque out of it to pull my camper also. I got a 98 suburban that i use right now but it lacks alot to be pulling a camper in these mountains of TN. Plus i got a big family to me, my wife and 6 kids. Id appreciate all the help i could get on what all to use.

Hey Welcome to the DTR.

Well I've no experience cross breeding these motors into other makes and models. But I know it's been done by more then one guy. For simplicity I'd go 89-93 donor truck with the early mechanical injection 12V motor. Basic 12V ignition wire and your running.

I get 20-23mpg mixed town and highway with my Stock 89 motor in my D350 crewcab, and 28mpg straight highway.

I know I've come across a diesel conversion forum before. If I find it I'll post it up for you. Also this section really doesn't get much traffic.

(Ever weigh that rig? Or post more info on a thread of it's own? Leave it to a C-Body guy to get size & performance in the same package. PM sent.)
