b3.3t in a sonoma
I posted on the jeep 3.3 thread a few times and saw the 3.3 s10 thread so I thought I would start my own. I put a B3.3T in a 1999 GMC Sonoma (same as an S10). I used the stock trans which is a NV3500 which was behind a 4.3 v6. I got adapter plates from phoenix castings to mate the engine and trans. The engine will not fit without oil pan and crossmember mods so don't think it is a quick easy bolt in. I have been working on mine for about 4 months off and on and finally went for a short drive last week.
Got 31mpg on my first fillup. Since then I have advanced pump timing 2mm and turned my fuel screw 1/2 a turn so we will see if that makes a difference. Definatelty improved throttle response. My 31mpg was tollway driving at about 70-75 and alot of stop and go stuck in traffic. Hopefully will get better with engine break in, warmer weather and less idle time. My engine currently has about 250miles on it.
Outstanding!
You've gone a couple more degrees on the pump timing than I'm at. How's it sound? I actually thought the sound improved on mine when I went from stock to +3 degrees. I saw an immediate +10% improvement after I advanced the timing.
If you are able to drive at 55mph I'd estimate you will be able to break 40mpg's based on the engines BSFC and your vehicles Cd*A drag information. That would be some sweet action!

Sorry no pics yet. I actually have the turbo off of the truck right now. I was having a loud turbo whine which just kept getting louder. Removed turbo and the up and down play on the intake turbine was .085-.090. Spec is .021 max. It appears the turbine contacted the intake housing too. Sent turbo out for repair.
That sucks - sorry to hear about that.
You had mentioned in the jeep thread that the waste gate was damaged when you received the engine. Is it possible that whatever caused that might have also damaged the turbo?

It may have but I actually think the turbo was out of spec to begin with. It had a lot of play before I installed it and the engine had not been run. I only have 850-950 miles on the engine and the noise steadily got worse over that time. We will see what the rebuilder has to say I have been playing phone tag with them this afternoon. I was going to get a wastegate put back on while they have it.
