66 Ford F-250 cummins swap??
66 Ford F-250 cummins swap??
I am thinking about converting my old Ford to a diesel and am wondering if a Cummins would fit. I would probably try to find a 89-93 12 valve to swap in in place of the stock 352 V8.
I think the stock engine weighs in between 650-700 lbs, and I know the cummins is considerably heavier than that, so that would be a concern front end wise, but I'm not for sure it would even fit in there without a bunch of work. Does anyone have weight and size specs for one of the first gen 12 valves?
Anything else that you can think of that might be of use is much appreciated as well. I am in the early stages right now, so would like to knock out any obstacles before digging in too far. Thanks!

I put one in a '68 F250 highboy, we had to cut a big whole in the firewall and build a dog house in the cab to accomodate the cummins' length. This was an 05 HPCR engine which is longer, but I still think cutting would be required. The grill wasn't really designed to accomodate an intercooler, radiator and tranny cooler. So the motor sits a ways back.
Stock springs will have to be replaced.
What tranny are you thinking about?

Well, I was thinking about a 5 speed, whatever was standard on those trucks just for simplicity sake. It has a 4 speed now, so the hole is already in the floor. Weren't some of them non-intercooled? I was hoping just to be able to get something in there and keep it as close to factory as possible. Cutting the firewall is not an option, so it that's what has to happen I might looking into a 6.9 or 7.3 IDI. I think one of those should fit in there? I know it wouldn't have the grunt that my cummins does, but it will really just be a play around truck anyway. None around here that I know of.
