Whats important to have for a truck pull?

Name me the TOP mods needed to pretty much win on all truck pulls?? Chip, tires, turbos.....etc anything that means alot but isnt extremely expensive?

Also,

Is it better to do truck pulls on dry asphalt or dirt? I would think asphalt for better traction but than asphalt really would kill the driveline even more.

I'll let others chime in on the other questions, but I need to address this one.

STAY AWAY from asphalt if you want to keep your driveline intact. It is EXTREMELY hard on driveline components and you have enough risk of breaking on dirt.
I pulled once on blacktop last year with ~400HP at the crank and did very well, but I wouldn't do it with my setup that I have now... Asphalt isn't very forgiving.

Build your tranny with whatever Haisley Machine puts in their pullers.

As far as not expensive and winning dont belong in the same sentence.
You can save money on stuff here and there but overall you will invest alot time and money into a sledpulling truck.

Just buy whats in my signature

Oh ok. Just buy a bunch of tractor weights and then wait for the chain to hit you in the back of the head

the reason for this question was b/c last night I was at a party and a few truck pulls took place, I didnt participate in the pulls b/c it was in the dirt and they all had mud tires even tho they were bald. I have stock rugged trail bald tires so I figure I shouldnt even try. But anyways, How do you guys think I would've done against these (2) particular trucks that pulled and were pretty much dead even, NO ONE moved:

97 F-250 powerjoke w/ 4" stacks but 3.25 from the turbo
v.s.
97 F-250 powerjoke w/ edge

The guy on the right had the stacks and it seemed like he pulled the one on the left with the EDGE maybe a few inches, but pretty much they were just both losing traction and no one was moving at all so I didnt want to even mess around just b/c of my tires, what would've you guys done?

Strictly you need to have invisible weight

I would use a full tank of diesel, if you have an L tank, fill that too, and if you can, put a plate underneath the bed mat, probably 3/4 or one inch thick, yeah it will cost you a pretty penny, but that will really help you out. Fill ur tool box to the brim with goodies too, or a truckbed full of deer corn is a good equalizer too. I pulled a z71 (dont laugh, the kid instigated it) on 38's in 4 hi and for me i had a bed with 3000 lbs of corn in the bed.
