Think maybe they reset the sled due to his weight?

Its amazing what torque and weight will do for ya. Ever seen stories about farmers who left their trucks in the way of center pivot sprinkler systems? Those things will drive over anything!

UNIMOGS are awesome!!

Each one of those wheels in a center pivot has a electical engine, and they will climb over anything. I have heard enough horror stories about trucks and trackters getting run over to make sure that i dont leave anything in those fields.

Also, keep in mind those Mog's have locked axles, and a locking center diff, so your at full traction all the time, the only stock truck that has that is the Power Wagon...to bad you can't get one with a Cummins, otherwise I'd be living in one after I sold my house to afford it...lol

It's Unimog with no gap or hyphen. The 406s and 416s with the 20 speed tranny have an approximate 4100:1 crawl ratio. My 406 outfitted for the trail weighed in at 8500 lb. The tranny and transfer case are built as one unit. There is no center differential just like a lot of other trucks including the Dodge. The older diesel 406s and 416s have a 6 cyl normally aspirated engine (OM352). 90 or 110 hp that can be turned up to 125 hp. The modern 'plastic' bodied U500s are nice with a lot more power and much smoother ride.

Fixed mine! I love Unimog's If I am not mistaken you can get a Mog with a 3-point hitch and either 540 or 1000 splined pto for farm implements cant you?

I think *****'s or JEEP made an early jeep with the same set up. Pretty cool to see a jeep with a plow on the back.

Yes on the 3 point hitch and front/rear PTO. You need a rear centralizer to get the PTO to the correct location for farm implements. Also a double clutch to keep the PTO live while you change gears. Mine had a front PTO winch.

Also typical options included F/R hydraulics, rear air for trailer brakes, and a hydraulic cylinder for a three-way dump bed. A more obscure option was hydrostatic drive (low speed only). Another was a torque converter even though it was a manual tranny w/ clutch. The TC allowed for un-real towing capacity...equipmented this way, Mogs were used for airplane tugs and railcar switching.

Think of a Unimog as a high speed tractor.

Yes they did -- I had a 48 *****'s CJ2A that had the PTO and a 3 point hitch. You had to work at getting this rig stuck, low end torque was great, flat head 4 cyl 134 cu in displacement as I recall.

Looks like it was also available for the CJ3

These were manufactured post WWII, they would work in the fields, and take the family to church on Sunday

Land Rover did it too on their early ones (which weren't much more than a ****** with some changes).

Here's some sweet vids of Mogs doin some crazy stuff. I like the one dude in the caged-out mog! What a way to get out of a crowded parking lot

Diesel Storm, I found a website awhile back that was selling Tatras in the US, about $16,000 for an 815 8x8 if I remember correctly. Can't seem to find it now. Problem with Tatras (to my understanding) is their powertrain system. While pure genius, I've heard it's very problematic for whatever reason (plus if you break something, you can't source a replacement part down at Napa )
