pulling without traction bars

well time and money have run out...i leave for vacation wednesday and when i come back saturday there is a pull going on that night. i am really looking forward to making it my first pull, ut i didnt get the traction bars built for me.

im worried that without the bars im at an increased risk of breaking...im putting about 470/950 to the ground with my current set-up. so how many guys have hooked to a sled without bars?

-i do know that if i go for it, as soon as i feel the bouncing i gotta let my brain go ahead of my pride and let off the throttle and take a short pull over broken parts

I've hooked at 650/1300 and not broken. I've also hooked at 600/1200 and shattered the pinion yoke because of the ladder bars. If you have aggressive tires, I would recommend building a set. I helped Kevin build his bars in 2 days, it can be done.

im thinking this week ill get under the truck, make sure all my new shocks are good and tight, double check the torque on the u-bolts for the springs, and go around and grease all my u-joints and make sure none are loose or worn.

im hoping to pull in the street class if i can pass tech, because i know i wont pass for modified as i dont have all the safety stuff...but with my mods being turbo, injectors, fueling box...im not really all that modified

I have rubbed the 35" tires on my fenders because of the lack of traction bars.

As long as you use your head and let out if you start bouncing you'll be just fine. I think your tires are going to be just about perfect for pulling, enough bite to get power to the ground but yet enough give to let you build wheel speed. You'll be just fine!

Joefarmer, how did the traction bars sheer your pinion yoke?

Depending on how well you come off the line will matter a lot without traction bars.
Traction bars will allow for a margin of error and not having them allows for no error....

The yoke torqued down. On the dyno they said it was rotating down about 4"... here, watch this.
