Pulling Newb

If a guy wants to get started into pulling, running beginner/lower hp level classes... what is done to pulling trucks to get them prepared for it? I know of some thing from reading articles in diesel power and what not... but I'd like to see what you guys say, b/c I know we've got some pullers on this board.

im not totally in love with the idea of getting ideas from some of the mags. a good portion of the articles i have read are dumb...filled with bad information and singing the praises for bad products. i take just about every article with a grain of salt. it is nice to see alot of guys trucks from here getting published but if your wanting real info you did right by searching for answers here.

like previously mentioned...

gauges
tranny/clutch
fuel sys
programmers/box
ladder bars
turbo

the list could go on and on

I was more so meaning like wieght racks/hitches and suspension. Its obvious that a tranny and gauges are needed, hell we need those on a stock truck.

Are there companies/shops making wieght racks and hitches or are these custom made?

Pretty much if I wanted to take a stock truck into a pull... what would be needed at most pulls(since not all pulling associations rules will be the same) to hook up. Oh and I've had a hard time finding ladder bars for anything but a 6" lift... I'll have a 3" when its all said and done. Any reccomendations there?

Most places require you to have a 3in opening on the hitch.. for the hook... other places will allow you to block it solid.. or have 1in of travel.. I'd build blocks that you can adjust... Most lower classes do not let you hang weights or at least on the front... (some areas don't have any rules..) We have a weight bracket in the bed.. if the don't want front weights.. Do a search on this forum for front weight brackets.. ladder bars.. pulling hitches not sure I have seen many threads for blocks..
Bryan

Edit:.. You should be able to build most of those things.. The search should give you some good ideas...

1) 26in Max Hitch Height (where the hook will lay)

2) Go to a truck stop and get your truck weighed... you want to be as close to 8,000lbs as possible without going over.

3) Traction Bars & Blocks

Then go pull and talk to the locals find out what power adders you can use and go from there!
