Buddy of mine pulled 285 the other night with an auto. Im not a sled puller (just a wannabe) but Im sure some others will chime in. It does seem like most of the ones doing well have manuals.

Chris did you pull in the stock class? how did you place? I was going to bring my truck to try the modified class but the loose torque converter bolts I tried to tighten yesterday turned out to be a shattered flex plate ( I figured it would be best not to pull with that). Will try to get it fixed before the end of the year and get back out there.

Good luck if you go to the Diesel shoot out next week, I wont be able to go.

I ran stock class. lots of trucks 25-30 something like that. I was 3rd the power strokes showed up really strong. there was only 2 trucks in modified class both very strong trucks. street class had a strong showing. I decided to let it shift this time, usaully I run in 2nd . so I was not used to the 1st gear and spun the tires coming out the gate. They had a floating finish and no buy backs. I beat my last pull so I was happy . now if I can get 10-15 more feet . I hear ya about next year I just got a '96 single cab we're gonna roll out next year. building it from the frame up to run street/modified. I'm tired of getting spanked by these duramaxs, those guys are puttin' some serious powerto the ground.

Definately get a built tranny if your gonna pull, but autos work pretty good. I pull with an auto and love it. Buddy of mine has an auto and I think he's been in the money every pull this year.
