Yes I'm an Old Fart Against Street Racing!
I have well over 400 rwhp on tap to get me out of any emergency situation should the need arise!
If you want to race me meet me at the track!! I'll even pay the $15.00 entry fee during the summer!
No, I'm not going to show off to you or your buddies in the Safeway parking lot. I have better things to do and I'm smarter than that! Just asking for trouble!!
No, I will not race your ricer or truck down the highway since that little old blue haired lady in the oldsmobile may be my grandmother or yours!
I have too many friends with near death experiences in our type trucks to race anyone on the street post your experiences here!
Rick
P.S. I'm 43

Why does everyone who is old think they are the only ones to have a brain cell? No offense it hasn't taken me 43 years to grasp your concept. It is a stigma that a few of us have had to put up with since we got our license but never earned. Kind of like being ripped off for insurance. No tickets or accidents but we still take the shaft.

newriver,
I'd have to say that your "stigma" is just statistics! Not everyone drives as safe and responsibly as you.
I'd prefer that none of the DTR members become just a statistic!

A couple of years ago my friends were coming back from a local horse show when a Grand Prix with 3 adults jumped out to pass across the double yellow line and hit their 01 Dodge 2500 4x4 (towing horses) head on.
My friends were severely injured Him: shattered right leg and broken pelvis. Her: broken back ruptured spleen and severe facial injuries.
Their 2 horses in the trailer: one had to be put down at the scene, the other died 4 days later of internal injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Grand Prix were killed on impact while the rear seat occupant suffered a severe head injury requiring a 6 month hospital stay.
While not a street racing story the Grand Prix's speed was estimated to be over 80mph.
I always think about that when I'm towing my trailer to work.

How old where the adults in the Grand Prix? I understand statistics and their impact on my insurance rates. My point was stupidity knows no bounds. Age, race, gender, ect..
I know your probably making a point towards the "KILL" thread. But I'm sure you can see a variety of ages posting there. Judge based on action not group. The diesel "stigma" in the US could also be called "statistics" if you base it on GM. That is one reason people think about our trucks the way they do. Some poeple like the smoke, in the wrong place those people continue that misconception. That does not make it true for everyone.

new river,
Actually the purpose of this thread is to prevent even one of our members from the same fate as my friends by being informed enough not to street race!!
BTW the oldest in the Grand Prix was 26- driver

If I wanna race you, does it have to be in my truck?
(I'm 24 now and have raced for several years now but always at the track. Everytime somebody wants to race, I tell them to meet me out at the track on a friday night...)

Street Racing is like competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you "win"... you're still retarded.
And no offense meant to the legitimately mentally impaired out there.
Street racing is stupid, end of list. Seeing accidents happen that are 100% preventable because of an overdose of testosterone, that sucks. Explaining to people why one of their family members is dead... that sucks.
Keep it on the track, keep it responsible. Don't be the " other guy" that mature, thoughtful, courteous, defensive drivers have to watch for. This is not about being "old" or being " crotchety", it is about common sense.
Drive with your head, not your foot.
OK Muk, you can have the soapbox back now...

I'm only 22 but i complete agree with you Muk, if they wanna race that bad theres always a track near to race on. I will admit i have raced on the road a few times when i was in High School but it's been way out in BFE where its long and flat and no one is around, and i've raced through a muddy field but thats a different story. I also had a friend of mine get in a similar accident like your friends. He was going east on a 2 lane highway in a International Tandme axle roll-off truck (loaded with debris) when a guy (driving west) that had to be ahead of everyone else, passed a few cars on a hill. Well they both crested the hill at the same time and my buddy put the guy in a coma for 6 months and also totalled out his semi and the guys car. my friend was luck to only break a few fingers and bump his head, it could have been alot worse.

the nearest track to me is 2.5 hrs, next one after that is around 5....not really easy to just swing by.....so I don't race. Why do I need 400hp?It's much easier to pass while towing a 20' stock trailer now...
Heres just another sad story!

Those punks should have been here instead! Emergency vehicles and Ambulance on site! Plus it is PERFECTLY LEGAL!!!

I wonder what they'd give to have been at the track that day instead of killing an innocent person and ruining the rest of their lives?!

Ok i'm all against street racing back as you can see runamuck tracks here in CA are going the way of Condos!! here in LA county there's only one track and it's at 2700 ft above sea level, which sucks!
I've also got a 2002 camaro ss that runs low 11's and i do race it at that track.
The only solution to keep kids from racing on the streets is to open more tracks and less CONDOS.
btw i'm 33
