Depends on what design of ladder bars you're getting.

How do they mount to the axle?

Under axle even with bottom of shock bracket. Between shock and leaf springs and as close to parallel to the frame as possible. They are very similiar to the ones you made. Just not as heavy or overkill.

Under acceleration, bars of that design will be subjected to compressive force, so preload them by lengthening with the heims so there's no slack.

XLR8R-Can you post some pictures. I am really curious to see your bars installed.

TexasCTD should have some installed photos next week; after a number of hard launches to seat the brackets, I adjusted the play out of the bars - one half turn each longer, which changed the pinion angle a degree or so and jacked up the rear over one-quarter inch. Now, they're quiet again.

Awesome. What pinion angle did you end up with after adjusting the bars?

I didn't measure it again, but I'm sure it's still ~ 2*, or I'd hear the U-joints shuddering on takeoff.

We just pulled the aluminum GN back from the shop an hour ago, and the ladder bars sure cut down on the "rodeo" ride with the trailer.

After hearing comments like that, I might have to just look more seriously into doing this....I sure like the Glacier Diesel design, but there is something to be said for the simple design you used.

Here's a side shot that also shows the heavy-duty step bars I made:
