How much do big tires slow you down in the 1/4

My truck has run a 13.6 at 99 almost 100. This was with 37's and 3.54's and no lockup switch. I am just wondering how much big tires slow you down in the 1/4. I want to try and get the truck into the 12's. So far I am thinking a lockup switch and 4.10's will help. I thought about stepping down to 35's but I am not sure how it will look with the 6.5" lift.

Thank you,

Paul

I was able to go from a 14.4 on 40's and a great launch down to a 13.9 on 35's with a not so great launch last year at Rockingham. I made 2 runs on the 40's and then went to the 35's for the rest. The difference was about a half second, but coulda been more. I, of course, have to ROW the gears and pretty much suck at it. Don't know if that helps ya.

Switching to 4.10s will help more than going to 35s. The gear change would be about 15% and the tires only about 9.5% change. Keep the look and change the gears. Don't know if it will get you to 12s but if not it should be 13.10s.

You can always buy a set of cheap wheels and put on some smaller tires for dragging.......that's what I may end up doing as my current truck is on 35's and wouldn't look very good with anything smaller IMO.

I had 35" tires for a short time on 20" wheels for a short time and removed the tires because they weighed over 80lbs each. I stepped down to 305/50/20 that is setup for the street and they weigh half of what the 35s did and the truck drives alot better. it felt like a slug to me with those big tires on it

I appreciate all the knowledge. The goal is to eventually get this thing into the high 11's, but the goal for this year is high 12's. My last ride was a high 9 sec street car, but I think it would be sweet to have an 11 sec truck that can still tow. I am just trying to figure out how I want to do it.

Once again thanks for the help.

My current tire/rim tips the scale at just over 160 per wheel.

You still have all that weight to get rotating. Dropping to a smaller tire will reduce weight and give the effective gearing he wants.

I might be going to piedmont after the March 22 dyno day. Its call "Slamboree" with lot of imports and mini trucks. We'll see if they'll let me in the dyno competition.

Taking the lift off the truck would help out to. also go back to a stock size tire or a little bit like a 285 would also help.

I went from 2" leveling kit and BFG 315s to no leveling kit and BFG 285s. That dropped my ETs from 13.2s to 12.7s, or at least helped. There was a Smarty change in the middle also.

I could run 13.6 with stock tires and then switch out for my daily driving tires, which were 33" Mickey Thompson ATZ'z, and it would pull me down to a 14.1.
