Clevis Pin & Hitch

Do you guys use a large nut on the underside of your pin to keep it from binding?

Is that an acceptable tow point for the sleds??? I sure thought that I would need something with more beef... If so, great I probably have one of those in the garage or in my jeep....

Thanks
Dave

Check out my latest pics..

I think for certain that clevis will hold.. It has the screw top on it, and it has been tightened very well with a pipe wrench. It has survived one tree stump yank already.. no issues... Acceptable for a sled? yes it is, as long as it isnt over the 26" max ride height..

One thing I'll add is you want to add some gussets to the hitch. I put 2 hooks on a setup identical to that, but it bent that thick piece of steel down about an inch. I welded a gusset into it on both sides and also sleeved the tube, now it's plenty sturdy I'll try to put a pic in my gallery soon...

The screw type are better. If and yes i know its a big if, IF the Gold pin ever bent it would slip out. The little hitch pin is not as secure as the screw in type. Least thats for offroad recovery. I should think safety is safety though.

That always hurts to watch footage like that. Oh well, that's why it's called racin'! Get a good clutch in there and you should be golden! Is that your significant other sighing in the background noise?

brandon.

Yeah, that was my wife and uncle discussing my clutch's destruction before I even hooked to the sled... a real pick me up. We knew going in, that it was going to be a weak point and most likely fail. The truck still drives just fine, other than losing a several thousand miles off the disc, it's no worse for the wear. But, I will be looking for a dual disc setup very, very soon...
