The transmission may have something to do with it.. The Allison is not much of a drag tranny, doesn't shift fast enough and doesn't slip for full power shifts. I would say that after 3 passes, the DM would at least be able to drive home...

I've been around local pulling for years and its not all in the horsepower its in the setup. Ive seen trucks with 500hp beat 600 hp cummins all the time. Sure horsepower can be a good factor but it is mostly in the setup. My dad pulls a 2003 chevy making around 700-750 hp and it has beat scheid motors with 800+ hp. But ive only seen a couple fords even close to a cummins or a chevy at any truck pull. Travis Dykes is the only guy around here and hes running a lot of fuel and a hx82 turbo.

Ford's cost a bunch of cash to build, although if you have the money you can make a ford run with the dodge and chevy guys, my buddy has a 99 7.3 he has a ton of money in the motor alone, he has yet to dyno it, as he recently finished it up, but i know it feels alot stronger than my cousins 500 hp duramax for some reason don't know why, its a ex cab sb 6sp, i'm just a all around diesel fan i'm a little buyist torward the cummins, but i have owned all three and with the right combo in each they all run good!

This year we will probably see a lot more Fords hitting the track. Hopefully they will fair pretty well.

btw way, buyist is spelled biased.

Where was the video you saw? Id say the ford guys are full of it. Sounds like a good way to say "we cant make the power you can, but somehow in this case less is more". Fords can make power, but if they are making it they will show it on the dyno. I raced an 99-02 powerstroke at the strip one day with a 140hp chip, and he was running 15.4's to my 15.2's. I dyno'd 281hp at the time, and i know he couldnt have been far off.

Id like to see the video you are speaking of though.

I don't know I will try to dig it up. I can see how average power could beat peak power, but I don't see how it is the rule across the board for every truck like others say. As for the 140 chip, most Fords will dyno in the area of 310-320 horse with those chips give or take some ponies, so no not far off.

Actually come to think of it, I hadnt dyno'd that setup. I was probably more around 310hp, so it should have been a REAL close race. He didnt beat me though, so i dont hardly buy the fact they will outrun a cummins/d-max of the same horsepower.

Well, being at the 300 or so hp levels I guess it's not really the best comparison.

7.3's have a nice long flat curve and thats what gives soem of them a leg up on a higher hp truck. But this would go for any motor, if you have 600 peaky hp vs 500 at a much longer curve the 500 will most likly win. Its not a wieght issue cause Fords are way heavier then any Dmax or any 2nd gen.
