3" pullin hitch?

I bought an hitch eye today from a Tractor Supply and when I got home I noticed the ID was 2.5". It deffinately is Heavy enough for the sled pulling I do at 42,000lbs. But will the hook for the sled fit a 2.5" hitch eye? I know the rulls state it should be 3". I never really took notice to the actual sled hook size before. I always barrowed a hitch for the times I went.

Brent.

I can tell you without looking at it that unless it's 3" ID you don't meet the rules for a pull calling for a 3" ID hitch. Just take it back.

I special ordered mine from a trailer supply, it came with the 5-position channel and 3" ID lunette eye for I think $67. The expensive thing is the solid 2" key stock! I think I paid $20-$30 for 1'! A lot of metal places jack the price way up when you only want a little bit of steel... I made mine very similar to Pourin's and welded it with 7018 rods that were 3/32's of an inch. I haven't pulled a sled yet but I have yanked VERY hard on some 90hp cabbed tractors that were stuck in a hardcore kind of fashion to get them out!

Question from a drag racer that finally went to a pull!
Does rear bumper need to be welded to frame. Saw a lot of them that way... just curious?

AND, what gear do autos use to pull?

Thanks
