Does Anybody Really Know What Turbos Were Used in These Old Cummins Engines?
Hi,
Could anyone please direct me to any websites out there which have detailed information regarding the turbochargers used on the old Cummins 743 and 855 cubic inch diesel engines we all know and love?
Specifically, I would like to know not only the turbocharger models but also what engine models and control parts lists associated with them. For example: turbo model: Holset H1C - used on: Cummins NTC-300 - engine CPL: 529
Also, when attempting to retrofit a 1983 or later model Holset turbocharger (Big Cam III forward) onto an older 743 or 855 cubic inch Cummins diesel engine (if equipped with a Jake brake also), be aware you must also replace or alter the Jake brake model currently on it to the one the newer turbocharger supports. These steps are necessary because failure to heed them may result in noticeable piston-to-valve contact due to the more intense boost rise of the 1983-up Holset turbos.
Thank you,
Ben Edge (DodgeDiesel1978)

Hi: The old Pete I drove 1968 had a Holset T-590 on it, but most of the others seem to be the Holset T50 turbo which was a smaller one. Our fleet was mostly Cummins 335 & 350's also had a couple of V-8's though I didn't drive them. Our service manager always modified our trucks, so i don't know what was stock.

Hi Guys, I'm kinda new here, but it looks like a great site. FYI-I currently have 3 Cummins trucks...'91 D-350 LE Dually @180,000mi (Carolina, no Winters), '92 W-250 LE 4X4 A/T 255,000+ mi (rusty now), and '07 RAM 3500 SLT 4X4 6.7 6spd stick, Flatbed...I had a '99 2500 SLT Larame Quad Cab 4X4 totally loaded-w/Leather and 'No Other Options Available' she had 'em all, and I let 'er get away...The only things I did to my '92 in 255K are change 2 water pumps, and the fuel shutoff soleniod, it still has the orginal starter, Alternator, Automatic transmission, tie rod ends...but after 17 NY winters it's getting rusty...
