I'm working on a Fire truck with 1500 watt/240 volt scene lights on it. They r North Star lights if anyone is familiar with them. they sit behind the pump panel on the truck, are fixed to the chassis. They can be raised up to 3 foot above the truck. There is a tube inside of a tube that allows u to get height. Inside that tube is a 12-gauge wire the is all coiled up so when u raise the light, the wire goes straight. When lowered it returns to the coiled shape. Can't think of the technical name for the wire. Its 3-strand. Help me out here & where can I get some? Was told it is a coil looped wire. Still don't know where to find this product.

 

Best bet is gonna be the OEM. If you have a heavy truck parts place near by they may can hook you up. Our local TruckPro stocks junk like that. I know you can find it from an online source. As far as the technical name, I always called it coiled three way wire.

 

Heard it called a telephone cable, umbilical cord, etc. Talk to a parts house near you, with a sample if possible. A good partsman will find it for you.

 

Found it on Grainger. Only thing I question is the specs. Will it work for what I need it for or am I just wasting my money? Heres a link to what I found.

I put ours under trees after a call with the lights still up, had to get the parts from the light mfg.

 

Looked at the Grainger link, and noticed a few things that make me rub my chin, with one eyebrow raised. One is the 125 volt rating,another is the indoor only rating, probably due to the PVC outer. This type of cord will not survive in any cold temps(below freezing). This is similar to the cable I was thinking of from your description.[http://www.mcmaster.com/#electrical-...-cords/=4t3fcy I think this would be a better choice, as it's a rubber jacket, with a 600 volt rating. The only question is if the 2.5" outer dia. will fit inside the light tubes without hanging up.
