A word about starters...

Good day. Over the past year, I have had the occasional issue starting the truck. If the batteries were anything less than completely topped up, I would get the click, click, click thing until it would finally catch.

While my batteries were getting weak, the real culprit was the starter, more specifically, the contacts in the starter solenoid. It seems these starters almost never fail but the contacts do burn out.

I bought a set of contacts at a local auto electric shop for about 20 bucks. Getting the starter out was a beeoch but once out, changing the contacts was easy.

The bits you want look like this;

These are the oversized contacts and are the ones you want. I got mine locally...you probably can too.

to get the starter out you just gotta hold your tounge the right way and its a snap,i just went through a year of bed starts with a new starter i bought a low price one and it gave me probs from the start also had one bad battery witch them takes a toll on your starter,got new batts and new starter and fires right up,an expensive oversight on my part though,check your batteries.

I got some from Joes Auto Electric in Edmonton. They were $5 but wernt the supersize ones like from Larry B has.

Hard to beat at $5. This is a good old school shop if you guys need any electrical work done.

Even the normal contacts will work for another 10 years or so. My local auto electric shop had the super sized contacts and plunger.
