Turbo rebuild/upgrade

My trucks getting a little higher in the miles, 230000ish, and i think i have an original turbo on it, end play isnt bad or anything like that yet, but i wouldnt mind spending a day or two on a weekend to go through the turbo and make sure its all up to snuff. I've seen engines that have eaten compressors and its not something i want to see with mine.
I also seem to have rediculous egts, especially with my trailer, so i was thinking about freshening the turbo up with a bigger compessor or inducer wheel (whichever its supposed to be) and housing.
Looking around online it seems like the only option is a full turbo replacement or rebuilding to factory specs. Is that the case?
What would you guys suggest i do to get my egts down without spending a mint.
I don't plan to make much more for power out of this truck, maybe upgrade to 90 horse sticks and plug a smarty into it. So as much as i would like twins its just not in the cards.

No point in sticks, smarty will be able to provide more fuel then that stock turbo can burn.

Not much that can be upgraded on the HE351cw, either rebuild or move onto a bigger turbo. You can make a hot 500whp or so with it.

Might pay to do a leak test on the air system. Check the wastegate as well. If thats leaking, it'll drop your boost and increase your temps.

according to my gauge i'm making as much as 32 pounds, and about 20 pounds cruising up the highway empty at about 130. about 10 pounds at 110. Sounds pretty well right on to me, but i could be wrong. Looks like i might have to save up some cash and just get a bigger turbo down the road. Maybe find a decent used one. Thanks for the opinions guys

Do the 3rd gens normally run that high on the highway? I remember with my stocker at 120 it was around 10 psi. With my 64, its more like 4 psi.
