Sub Woofer box

I am trying to find a decent source for subwoofer box for my truck, Looking for a single 10" driver side quad cab.
So far I have been quoted $250 for a JB one. Is a little much I think.

Truck is a 05 quad cab

Does that replace the whole center seat? I don't use the center seat often but when I do it is nice to have.,

nothing in Red Deer can touch a box for under the $200 mark.

Yet I see them online out of the US for $70+$20 shipping.

If you can find a box for under 200 you should buy it.. I know that a custom box will be 300 if its built right...

I know that online the boxes built out of MDF are the $70+ shipping.
I know JB audio has a box sub combo around $500, wont sell with out sub.
A fiberglass box built locally costs $200+ depending on everything under the sun.

I like to support local but how do these guys down south manage building these boxes for less then half what they can local. It almost seemed like I was a inconvience to the shops when I went in to ask about one.

Too bad you arent closer,, I would build you one... be carefull, cheap isnt always good, especially with sub boxes. Probably one of the most important part of the stereo. If the sizing is wrong, or the material isnt stiff enough, or there is leaks,, no bueno. I used to work in a custom stereo shop, built some very killer stereo systems back in the day

I bet those JB ones are built over seas. I took a course in Arizona for car audio... we got to see two speaker plants there. No one spoke english but the managers.. I'm sure there where no 20 buck an hour jobs there either.

BTW lots of the JB sub boxes are Particle board not MDF... There IS a difference in sound quality.. If you get a good or great sub box builder then you will get every pennys worth out of your sub and amp

I might have to break down an go buy a sheet of MDF and a new skill saw and make one myself.

You will need to find out the cubic feet needed for that sub,, there will be a number I bet on the manufactures web site.. then you need to use a formula that I am sure is probably on their site too to determine exactly how big to build your box. When you build the box use a table saw, make sure you glue each joint, minimum .75 thick mdf, 1 inch much better. Must be totally sealed

Use fiber glass resin on the outside of the box to help seal it. With 3/4 inch mdf if you stick a shop vac to one side you can hold a piece of paper up to the other side with the suction that comes through the MDF..Yes glue and brad nail or even screws and don't turn the sub on for 24 hours to let the glue dry completely..

At the risk of hijacking this....My 16 year old has a sub in his trunk which was installed by his buddy's, who talked him into using welding cable as the ground for the amp. Is there seriously a need for a ground as big as my finger? It kept coming loose from his amp because it was impossible to connect properly so I s##t canned it and put a 12 guage wire on it.

The box I have could be used as a centre seat. The arm rest/upper console attaches to it. I had it built to spec for a JL 10W6 for my 04 Ram.
It needs to have new hardware for mounting to the seat brackets and it can be recovered easily. Its collecting dust here and weighs a ton. PM me if you are interested. I built a Lexan 3/4" thick sub box for my mega cab that goes behind the rear drivers side seat...so no need for this box.
