The Pac Brake

I was looking at the New Pac Brake for the 6.7 Dodge. To bad they dont have one for the manual tranny yet.
For $1800 plus install it looks like it will be a good mod for those who haul heavy loads.
Has anyone installed one yet, if you have how does it work. Does it work the way they claim.

basically its a fancy decompression device, to force the exhaust brake to work faster and harder.

It does help on mine. Will hold speed with my 15k fiver down hills and does a great job slowing down in general. It is a pricey upgrade for sure, but I was replacing pads annually and rotors bi annually before I got one. Now I am going about 3 years on the pads and expect at least 5 on the rotors. Over time it might pay back. However, I am not burning my brakes and warping rotors down hills anymore so for me the peace of mind was well worth it.
I keep it on full time, helps warm up the engine and you get used to having the help.
Once you get over the sticker price you will wonder how you lived without it.

I don't think we're all talking about the same thing here.......

I assumed he was asking about the new 6.7L load leash integrated brake that pac brake is coming out with. It says right on their webpage theres a limited test run this month and next month, and product release is fall 2012.

Bankdude I don't imagine it's the one you have. But I don't know what exactly you've got going on.

I have a PRXB in mine. The OEM exhaust brake was an optional order item in my 2007. I chose to go this route as research suggested it was a stronger brake than OEM and I liked the option of having inboard air to top up a tire if needed. It works great, when it works. Let me explain. Over the past four years, the exhaust brake works fantastic in temperatures above minus 15*C. However, below those temps, the pressure switch has a tendency to freeze up and thus cuts the compressor out before reaching full pressure. This causes the butterfly valve to not close completely in the house and is less efficient in braking.

I have had numerous conversations with company representatives regarding the issue both on the phone and here in the DTR. I have done as suggested by relocating the pressure switch into the engine compartment among numerous other things suggested that are in contravention to the original installation instructions.

As of the past couple weeks, temperatures have been floating from freezing to minus 5ish as highs. The PAC Brake has been progressively getting worse - well compressor and switch anyway with increased issue during warmer temperatures.

As of yesterday, I have zero compressor operation. Instead of going hunting, I was testing things all day to figure out the issue. I am down to the point of narrowing it down to a piled up compressor and pressure switch.

I recommend the PRXB on the basis that when it works, strong braking is achieved. I don't recommend it on the basis of the long term cold weather issues I have had and the time I have spent diagnosing without a fix from PAC Brake. The OEM exhaust brake has been suggested to not be as strong in the braking department, but there are much fewer reports of issues at the same time.

It works similar to a real Jake brake. Wonder why they don't work it like a real one though? Maybe so the stocker doesn't get turned on and blown up?

they would have to time each individual cylinder dump to the current firing injector. they haven't done that yet. So they actuate all the exhaust valves at the same time, and run the vgt up to ramp up boost. to enhance the restriction effect. Sort of like real Jakes, but not quite. More like the engine brake in the mercedies MBE4000, and I think engine braking power of those suck, compared to a real jack head.
