One Piece Drive Shaft for LB or Mega

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knows a local place to get a good price on a 1 piece aluminium drive shaft for my Megacab. I have the 2 piece and am in need of a rebuild on it and would like to get the 1 piece.

Part # is 52123161AB but dodge wants $900.

I was just researching 1 piece aluminum driveshafts for my truck.

A factory 1 piece aluminum driveshaft with the AAM 1485 U-joints is not available from Dodge for my 2wd NV5600 quadcab short box combo originally with a 2 piece driveshaft.

But Dog House Diesel in Alabama has some really nice options.
Not sure if you have heard of Dog House Diesel but that's Cumminalong's shop.

http://www.doghousediesel.com/catalog/i429.html

Pricey stuff but it would be a drop-in solution. Plus they use off the shelf stronger Spicer 1410/1480 joints rather than the oddball AAM 1415/1485stuff.
Free shipping within the US & he does show +$60 for Canadian shipping but plan on brokerage charges on top of that.

(While his website says NOT available for 2wd trucks, it actually means not for 2wd LONGBOX trucks).

Wouldn't Pat's Driveline be able to build you one?

They are mostly Spicer parts anyways and a lot of cars nowadays run aluminum shafts so building one for a truck shouldn't be a stretch.

They do all my driveshaft work and the workmanship is excellent, I have no complaints.

Awesome thanks for the info guys I will have to give both of those a try. I know about 4-5 people that need one.

That sucks stealth. When I call Pats tomorrow I will ask them about making one for your 2wd longbox as well and let you know what they say.

Hey guys, so I called both Drive Products Inc and Pats. They both can do it and have done it.

DPI was about $700 and they will need to re-use your transfer case yok and your 4 bolt mount at the diff.

Pats is the same deal with re-using some parts but their cost was about $800 but he is going to confirm that with me by tomorrow.

I have one more place to call.

Stealth I would think one of these guys would be your best bet.

I will report back with the final prices when I get them.

Just got word from my last resource.

http://www.comtruck.ca/locations/calgary

I talked to Jason and he said if you can bring down your driveshaft it would be about $550-600 if you take the truck to them it is about $650-700.

I think they are going to be the best option in Calgary at least. They have built a lot of them so far and have had lots of good feedback.

This is where I will be getting mine done.

Would a aluminum driveshaft be considerably lighter than the stock driveshaft?

It is a drastic difference yes! Doghouse Diesel says that you go from 71lbs with the 2 piece to 39lbs with the 1 piece.

Aluminum driveshafts are typically a larger diameter, so while it does drop weight, actual inertial loss is not nearly as much.
