I would definitely replace the oil. However, I would probably perform another analysis around 4500 miles or so to establish a baseline with that oil.

As far as oil being the culprit for copper additive...that just doesn't make since-copper is a wear metal. Talking about masking potential problems, every time you perform an oil analysis you would never know that your bottom end is about to give.

Other than dropping oil and testing again at 4500, I would consider ordering an oil analysis kit from AMSOIL and send a sample of the current oil to Oil Analyzer's Inc in Edmonton to see what they say.

Here is a good article I found on copper and diesel oil:

Copper and Your Diesel Engine Oils

I pulled a sample of at 100k km's on the oil, the report came back with a change recommendation finally. I changed out all of my fluids last week as they were all changed 100k ago as well.

How many winters were on that oil? Do you have a way to track engine hours?

that's a silly amount of miles on an oil change, makes me feel more better about forgetting once in a while for that extra couple thousand kms haha

Pulled a sample this weekend and all is good, getting close to change out time in September. Love going 50,000 km's between changes.
