lowering my truck

Anyone ever lowered a 4x4? What would be the steps, things to look for etc? I am going to do the easy stuff, like flip my blocks on the back, get a shackle kit,, remove some leafs... but for the front, all I can think of is cutting the coils. has anyone heard of a drop set of spindles for a 4x4? Or of anyone that could manufacture something like that?

You are pretty much at the mercy of doing full on suspension work.

I know for a fact that off road companies make angle drive front axles, to get the front wheels lower or higher as the case may be, but I have yet to see anything like that for a passenger vehicle.

I would be tempted to do your rear axle flip, then lower the front by relocating the upper spring pockets higher above the frame rails. That said, you will be limited by the oilpan clearance, among other things. It would still be a pretty smokin setup when it was done though. The only thing is, you won't have a whole bunch of suspension travel left to play with in the front. Some of your GP roads might give you some grief.

Just food for thought, difficult is commonplace, impossible can be delivered by tomorrow afternoon.

Good Luck

lol,, im not too worried about roads, as I dont really drive the truck everyday,, mostly just for racing, the occasional cruise or dyno day

the oilpan clearance is a problem, that is why I am hoping for a set of drop spindles,,,,, not even sure how that would work on a 4x4,,,,, but even if I could drop it 3 inches that would be awesome

You're really gettin' serious Kevin!

My '90 Dodge show truck was easy, but it was a 2WD. Sorry. I have no idea where to start with a 4WD truck.

Have you looked at some of the bigger Lowering kit companies to see if they offer anything? Like Suspesion Techniques, Belltech, Eibach, etc. I am sure you may find something there.

Talk to a place like Standens. They can make you a set of coil springs so you could keep the same spring rate, but in a shorter coil. I'd imagine you'd want some adjustable links in the front then so you can adjust your caster/pinion angle.

Kevin, Kevin, Kevin!!! We here in Central Alberta have a name for guys who lower their 4x4's but I can't say that on here without offending some. All kidding aside, are you lowering to help for at the track? Aaron @ CT should have the connections for that kinda work?

There is a place in Red Deer, Altitude Adjustments, the guy you want to talk to is Mark. He is a suspension geek. I would call him and see if he can help you out.
