The catch with building a refinery is that it is such a huge investment of cash-like billions of dollars-that an oil company must invest in order to what-increase supply & reduce the price!

there hasn't been a refinery built since the 70's ( Ive been told) & unless the govt builds it them selves, I don't think there will be one for quite some time.

maybe no new refineries butplenty of expansions!!! Scotford, Petro Can an Imperial to be exact. There is refining capacity just a nice way to keep profits up by brainwashing the masses into thinking that there is a shortage. To me a shortage is whe you go and fill up and there is no fuel!!

That happened this past winter in October / November. Grande Prairie and Grande Cache were hit hard. I was in GP, and it took the fourth stop to get fuel on one particular occasion. I know guys that were in a line up for over an hour in Cache to get fuel because the other station was out (there are only two stations with diesel there). My brother was telling me there were a few stations in Edmonton that ran out during this time as well.

It's still happening here in Edm. on occasion currently.

Just did a trip out to Weekes/Porcupine Plain area of Saskatchewan and couldn't quite make it to Saskatoon ... had to drop 25 litres in at Radisson at 1.49 per litre!!! Flying J in the 'toon was 1.36 then 1.32 on the return trip. Incidentally the only place that I saw in Sask. that had diesel priced the same as gas was the Tempo in Tisdale ... everywhere else diesel was higher than gas by 5 - 10 cents per litre.
