the flying j in south calgary has a big shell sign right below theirs, so there is some sort of affiliation.I don't know about grade difference but i see the flying j truck filling up at the same depot as the rest of them. They were $1.28 this morning everyone else is $1.34ish.

The flying J here in sherwood park no longer offers airmiles for diesel purchase since the price started rising a few months ago(of course), so iam just wondering if it is the same at the rest of them? Anyone notice? It was 1.26 this morn when I drove by

This is an interesting comment - many moons ago there was a huge thread on this site that was claiming the Flying J was heating fuel so you would get less. I think this was just speculation.
That being said, I fuel up at Flying J all the time - becauase its cheap. My uncle fuels up at different stations and also has used a lot of Flying J fuel - he claims that he gets way better milage if he satys away from Flying J. He also claims that Mohawk (of all places) has the best diesel.

With all this talk about fuel, anyone know an aluminum welder to fab me up a tool box / fuel tank combo for my truck? I need it to work with a GN hitch. I have the separate tank and tool box I used in my '98, but GN won't fit behind those. I've approached the guy tat built the bumper for my '98, but he's away at work all the time, so he's not going to be able to do it.
The reason I need one fab'd, is I will not go less than 3/16" aluminum. Every manufacturer build 1/8".

In the Calgary area the best deal on Diesel is Co-op! Last year got 10.5 cents dividend. Their posted price is usually within a cent of superstore and sometimes better plus dividend of 10.5 cents.

Sorry about digging up this old thread you Alberta guys had going about Flying J.
The north end of Saskatoon has a newer Husky on the Yellowhead. This was put up maybe 6 years ago. Flying J put up a new facility on #11 about 5 blocks from the Husky over a year ago. When Flying J opened they dropped their price about 10 c/litre from what Husky was charging and Husky matched the price and always has since then. None of the others try to match the price.
Makes you wonder what the price of fuel really could be!

I fill at the Flying J in Nisku as much as possible and noticed the Air Miles thing a few weeks back so I questioned the lady behind the till on Friday. " How come you don't take Air Miles anymore but every other Shell station does on diesel? " her answer: " we are not Shell! " , me " well what is with the big Shell sign then? " her answer " we sell Shell gas but Flying J diesel. " me " Ok then where does Flying J get their Diesel then? " she said " the USA!!! " I call bull s"":?> , but that is the story i was told. I wonder how they truck it all the weay up from the USA and still sell it cheaper?

All the Flying J trucks load up at Shell Sherwood Terminal.............right SE of the plant I'm currently at. I see in and out of there all day, everyday.
However, I heard a little something over the weekend. Apparently, one of the reasons our fuel is so high, is we ship bitumen to the US, they refine it to fuel, and sell it back to us. The reason this is done, is our refineries cannot handle all the demand up here and have to source out. Time to build some more refineries maybe? Cut costs for us? Hmmmmm.....there's a concept. So although we do some refining here, most of our cost is refining and shipping from the US. Must be our brain damaged government at work again.
