The extra room with our 07 Mega cab is a deal breaker now,(i will never be with out the extra room)even though i drive it empty 95% of the time back and forth to work. When needed, you will wonder why you waited so long. The Mrs and her girlfriend(S) pile in and head out for a weekend at our lake property(they still can fill the cab and bed full for only a few days of R&R??? ---where as i head out hunting for a week and the back seat is the only thing full.).Good luck and you will probable shed a tear when the 2nd genner drives away.DW

^^Well this is simply not true. I have a BD exhaust brake with a manual trans. The 6.7L turbo brake with a manual trans is not nearly as effective.
One just has to look at the way the two designs restrict exhaust to understand why.
As much as I'm biase towards the Cummins, even the 2011+ Duramax turbo brake is much more effective than the Cummins 6.7L turbo brake. Just take one for a drive to see.
This is also confirmed by numerous comparison tests between the Ford, Duramax and Cummins.
I'm still having trouble getting my head around 3.42 rear gears while towing 10K lbs up the Rogers Pass or out of Radium.
I have test driven 6.7L Cummins with 6 speed auto's, stock tires and 3.73's.
While fine when empty, IMO if you added larger tires you would be towing up hill in 4th gear or else lugging the heck out of it.
I've been in Alex's 6.7L truck when it was stock. G56, 3.42gears, 34" tires and he could cruise 90km/h (55mph) in 4th gear.
Put 10k lb's behind that truck, head for the Rogers pass and it would be lugging in 5th gear.
Yes, the 6.7L could pull it but you better have a new clutch and G56 waiting for you at the top because all the lugging and low speed harmonics are really tough on the drivetrain.
Just my opinion...

Well the 2000 is officially gone now. Sad day, I've got a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into it! Hopefully it's as good for the new owner as it was for me.
No turning back now, I pick up the 2011 tomorrow afternoon.
Anyone know if I can adjust the tire height, or is that a dealer job? I'd like to put on the 285/75/17 with H2's right away with the 410s in the rear.

I've been thinking of a 2012 truck also, to stay away from the urea stuff. Did you go auto or stick, let me know how it goes.
Cheers!

Hey Dan, did you change your number? You passed me on the highway the other day, so I texted you, but no response.. Kelly is still up there till the 19th, I am down in Stony now full time. But I am still making a couple trips up there to pick up furniture, and fifth wheel etc.
Be good to catch up again!

I never drive over 70km/hr or 2200rpm in 4th gear, I like my rpm's at 1800 when grocery shopping. I'm certain at 90/hr I'd die if not in 5th gear lol. Just the way I'm used to driving I guess.
Thought the sweet spot for diesel it's under 2000 rpm?
Still can't find the chart for gear ratio for G56 vs 68 rfe but I can almost swear I read someplace that 3.42 in G56 is comparable to 3.73 in auto.
After some research on a real computer(easier than on the phone), I found this thread:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...sion+ratio+g56
And if you read 67guzzler's post, it turns out that with stock tires G56 with 3.42 is comparable with 68RFE with 4.10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, bigger tires and towing 10,000lbs without issues from Texas to Calgary might finally make sense to the non believers.
I think with 34" tires my G56 with 3.42 should be comparable to a 3.73 Auto with stock tires
Ya -- If you're getting the G56, you want the 3.42. You'll hate the 3.73 with the G56 on the highway....
I saw this chart below in another thread a while back:
G56 Manual w/0.74 final drive ratio in 6th gear, 265/70-17 tires, 654 revs per mile @ 70 mph:
3.42 axle -- 1931 rpm at 70 mph
3.73 axle -- 2106 rpm at 70 mph
4.11 axle -- 2321 rpm at 70 mph (combination NOT available -- just for comparison)
6-Speed Automatic w/0.63 final drive ratio in 6th gear, 265/70-17 tires, 654 revs per mile @ 70 mph:
3.42 axle -- 1644 rpm at 70 mph
3.73 axle -- 1793 rpm at 70 mph
4.11 axle -- 1976 rpm at 70 mph
The last column is the RPM's at 70 mph. Note that the 6 speed automatic with the 4.11 isn't much worse on the highway than the G56 manual with the most economical option, 3.42 -- Both around 1950 rpm's.

I have the 33.8" tires and H2's on now. Stock suspension, no rubbing at all.
Speedo is 7% off I think over stock. 100km/h on the speedo is actually 107km/h
This weekend I'm highway driving and RPM ranges have been great. I love this tranny and EB in the winding mountain downhill roads with low speed limits! Have barely even used the service brakes yet.
When manually using the toggle selector on the shift lever - if I set it to '4' does the transmission behave normally except not allow shifts into 5 & 6?
Still learning about this trans...
magiriano - if the SMARTY is anything like my 2nd gen SMARTY, the calibration won't work on any truck but the one it is VIN locked too.

I would get a H&S mini tuner, as you can get the OD tuning. The difference between stock and the OD tuning is unbelievable. Tire size adjustments are easily. The dpf/cat delete can be done with a chunk of 4in pipe and some 3/8in plate. Done lots that way. You can leave the stuff underhood there or just remove the epa crap. Most of the emission parts come off pretty fast.
We installed a set of twins/nozzles onto a 2010 last week. The new stuff is just about as easy to work on as the old stuff.

magiriano - I think at 120 by the speedo I'd only be about 128 actual, not 133...
120 x 1.07 = ~128
I just drove the limit or slightly above, by the speedo for the trip. Rather, 7% above actual, plus or minus here and there. Had the cruise set the majority of the trip, outside of that, no conscious effort to save fuel. With my 7% correction factor worked in, I did ~16.8mpg. Can't say I'm terribly happy with those numbers for empty highway driving!

Mike -
I have been thinking about deletes since before I even signed for the truck!
I know I can delete all the exhaust components, and is fairly straight forward. However, I can't decide between MADS or H&S.
I liked my SMARTY on the 2nd gen and all the features it comes with. I don't like the lack of gauges and de-fueling though. Although price is very good.
As for H&S - it's very expensive, BUT you get gauges and de-fueling options. Plus, the ability to add OD trans tuning.
I'm at an impasse here. Truth be told though, I prefer standalone gauges. 2 reasons, first - I like the look; second - it keeps me more in tune with what's going on with my drivetrain.
