Driveshaft Death Rattle

So I've noticed when driving on the highway at 130km/hr I get a wicked rattle from my driveshaft, like its trying to remove itself from my truck, it only does it when cruising at this speed, theres no rattle at 120 or 140, or under acceleration. The rattle comes from pretty much directly under the front seats. I had it in at Rob's and he checked the u-joints and steady bearing and said they were fine, so I dunno, is the driveshaft just out of balance? Or something in the transfer case? Thoughts and opinions peoples.

Time for testing....Has this happened when the front shaft flew apart??If yes...Remove the front shaft to see if that is the problem..

Pinion Angle mat have changed?
Although your Carli coils shouldn't have screwed that up to badly, I do not have any issue with mine.

What parts have you replaced? I heard that you had lots of fun doing an awesome boost launch show/throwing around front driveshaft broken parts. I wonder if you bent something. I do have a spare front axle out of an 01 truck, you can have it if need one.

Front driveshaft was rebuilt, and rear drive shaft was replaced near the end of last summer, maybe early fall, new rear u-joint in the rear drive shaft when the tranny went in.

Since the front driveshaft doesn't turn when not in 4wd, it shouldn't be an issue. But thats easy enough to eliminate.

When did this start? Could be tires, d-shaft or tranny/t-case related. Could rotate your tires. If the vibe moves from the back to the front, could be an imbalance or a tire seperating. If it stays the same, you'd be looking at driveline issues. Start looking to see if any weights came off the driveshaft. Phone a driveline shop or two and see what a balancing would be worth. That would also check for runout on the shaft.

If all that checks out, you would probably start looking at the tranny/t-case.

.
That's not true, the shaft will be driven by the front differential.

01 didn't have the autolocking front hubs, they lock with vaccum lines. Tate's right, I forgot when I posted. Each year is abit different in driveline configuration.

My 02 front shaft turns, but that the first year for the auto locking hubs, shift on the fly.

I would spin the drive shaft, like Tate suggested. I wonder if you bent something. I do have a spare 01 front axle available. Good luck Gregg.

There are no autolocking hubs or any kind of hubs for that matter on these trucks.
02 trucks got rid of the CAD unit or Center-Axle disconnect.
The drive shaft and thus diff are always turning on these models regardless of 4x4 operation. When you flip into 4x4 the transfer case in engaged.
Same with the third gen trucks as well.

Happened to me. Front u-joint on the front shaft. Also getting a new transfer case, as the front output shaft bearing is shot, and thought that with 300+k it was time to replace the whole thing.

Perhaps a dumb question, but are your driveshafts in phase?

I think this is your problem, could the front drive shaft have been twisted throwing it out of phase. An out of phase shaft shows as a rattle at only one spot.
