Daytime Running Lights

Does anyone know someone in the Edmonton area with a star scan that is willing to disable the DRL's on a 05 Cummins, I need them disabled for the HID lights not to flicker when the lights are "off", Mads says they dont got anything to help me with the smarty jr.

Thanks for some help

Dont quote me on it but I believe you can fool the PCM by cutting/grounding a wire that comes from the park brake so that the DRL think the P-brake is on, I'll have to ask a friend who does remote installs what it is exactly he does to "trick" the DRL,
in the interm you could press the p-brake down enough to put the dash light on, but not enought to apply the p-brake

a few more things i just thought of i think Canada requires the day time lights on newer trucks to work and when the turn signal is on that side running light must go off in daylight if that is the case it will require a little more work also your kit might not be legal, most are not and d.o.t. are starting to crack down on them. my 06's i tried several different things before i finally bought bi projectors from wrecked honda acords and i think it is the best set up i have ever seen i wired the bi solenoids to the truck high beam wires and the ballast's to a switch mounted on dash. i think there is now a head lamp kit that has every thing in it and just requires adjusting the beam you will still have to do the odd wiring for the 06. i have never seen the kit but seen pix of it

Yes its the law in Canada must have daytime running lights on if the vehicle was built with them.

Do your daytime running lights go off when you put the truck in park?

With the truck is park the lights haze a bit back and forth, when put in drive the lights strobe like a police car. I know that they are required to have, but I spent 400$ on a HID kit that I cannot return. I did buy the Special Harness with built in resistors so the lights function properly with no "lamp out" messages but I still get the Lamp out light because of the DRL's. Also on a 05 the DRL does not go off when you turn on the signal. The truck does not get inspections so thats not a problem and I think a DRL failure ticket would be less severe than a inpersenation of law enforment ( you should see the people pull over when you forget to turn the lights 'On' and they are in strobe mode). The lights work great when the switch is 'on' but you sometimes forget and drive with them in strobe mode. I am really considering removing them and returning them back to stock, but someone must have a starscan.

I just thought of something why not have the headlights wired thru a relay so that the headlights come on when the truck is started,

Bully Dog programmers have the ability to adjust more options than a Smarty and DRLs' is one of them.

I'm not sure which Bully Dog programmer nor which version of s/w. This would require research but there are a ton of used BD programmers around
since the CR Smarty has evolved into such an outstanding product.

There might be an independant shop that has a DRB or equivalent that can & would make this change.

Not sure this is much help.. Good luck, Joe.

I know Jason Hansen has a DRB III, maybe he has the newer version now too. Send him a PM, maybe you'll luck out. Or he might just go buy one.

Doesnt bother me if you dont have daytime lights. Hope you are able to get them turned off. I just cant see a dealership turning them off for you. Unless you know a tech or somebody with the star scan tool. Good luck
