Shift tower is part of the cover on the old ones, newer ones it bolts on. You can get a short shift kit for the newer ones, and its a much tighter feel.

I was thinking of the SB that is rated for 550HP/1100 FT.Its a little over kill because I don't think I will get to 550HP.I don't want to be like Mikey(Automatic transmission test pilot) and start breaking things..I have to call peak and find out what the difference is between Con O,FE and OFE.I don't think I need a dual setup.353HP is enough to get me into trouble. But would be nice to break the 400HP mark or break something else...

I don't regret getting the FE. I was the same, why just get enough? I tow a good sized RV and didn't want to do it twice.

Even though its pretty cliche to push SB here, I have been happy with mine. That said, Valair has a good following and I haven't heard of any real complaints from them. Are you just looking for a good single disc, or are you gonna step up to a dual? Like Jason said, look to Peak or PDR. Personally, I'd go to Peak first, since that is where the guru's are at. Which reminds me, I need to call them.

If you're gonna overhaul your tranny, I'd personally look for a 98-03 top cover for it. You get the better shifter design, much tighter feel. I never really liked the way the 94-97 trannies shifted. JMO.
Dave,
Listen to Tate! Could make three people happy in one fell swoop!

Prefect timing to tryout the new twins? New injectors. Get good stuff and we will help you on breaking it in. I think Dynomite has a deal on their tweaked injection pumps. I liked to see you smokeout your first vette with the girl. Tate would be dropping in air bags and fat weenies on the girl, if he buy the truck. Someone should just buy his ranger off him and show him how to buy a race truck. You supply the beer Dave, I'm into giving you a hand. The next garage party at your place.

Dave if your are looking at an FE....consider throwing the extra 500 bucks in and getting a low rated DD.....I had the FE and thought it was OK, then she slipped on me and I went too a BIG DD.....and too be honest, I was pretty choked that I didn't go too a DD in the first place....I have the SPEC that has the 4200# pressure plate and quite honestly feel it is as driveable as the FE was.....so if you were too go with a 3250# DD, then I think you would be much happier with it.

Unless Dave is going to twins and all out new fuel pump, a DD may be a little more than required. Based on his HP goals, the FE is a safety factor on what is really needed (OFE).

If was to do it over I would sell hp parts and go back to a ofe, I am not liking my DD sprung 3600 much for daily driving it rattles bad wit the clutch in and it is tough to get in 1st and reverse from a dead stop without hitting another gear first. BUT....... when you load the thing up in 3rd and let it loose......WOW it is very hard to keep you hands on the wheel.Hence why I am still loooking for a guy with a 01 auto to switch with either a built auto or plain we can switch cash with the deal.Keep wifey happy.

how ever if I a guy must run a clutch make it a south bend Peter is EXCELLENT!
